MARTHA (HOVING) ANDERSON July 25, 1921 - December 30, 2016 Martha was the much loved mother of Barbara (Gerry), Rob (Diana) and Gord; Gramma to Ainsley (Rick), Shandis (Marty) and Travis; Nana to Marc, Senna, Ben, Lily and Tessa. She will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, cousins and many friends and neighbors. Martha was predeceased by husband Edmund; sisters, Dean and Mary; brother Peter; grandson Travis and dear family friend Sigi. Martha will always be remembered by those who knew her as a strong, resourceful, kind, loving, cheerful and appreciative lady, who knew only how to give unconditionally. She was an inspiration to all, a friend to all. She was someone who had the gift of being able immediately to connect with strangers who would soon become friends. She was always grateful for the smallest consideration, for any time spent with loved ones - never demanding more than what was offered. Whenever a visit ended she showed her appreciation by saying "Thank you for coming." Martha was raised in North Kildonan in the large family home that had been built by the Selkirk settler, Samuel Henderson, after whom Henderson Highway was named. This log house was remodeled by her husband Edmund, a creative, talented and tireless craftsman. After his death in 1970, Martha and her two young sons remained in the house until 1977 when they moved to Edgewood Estates, then a new, large apartment complex located a mile down the highway from her original home, still facing the Red River. She worked there as a leasing agent for many years before retiring, and was therefore, known and loved by many who lived there. Always near to her these later years were special, helpful neighbors, Doreen and Gord. Martha always hoped that she would be able to live out her days in her own apartment, a wish which was granted in part by the homecare help she received over the last three years. How fortunate we, her family, are to have the everlasting image of her sparkling, loving eyes in our memories. She will forever be loved and cherished by her family and friends. Mom left the following message in her jewelry box for us to find: "I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun, of happy memories that I leave when life is done." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Travis Price Spirit Scholarship Fund administered by the Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 0X3 or to a charity of your choice. A private family service will follow at a later date.

  • My sincerest condolences to the family. I knew Mrs. Anderson from Nutimik Lake where the family camped for many years. She always made me feel welcome at their trailer when I visited with Barb. She truly was an amazing person and I pray the fond memories of their Mom will help the family in their time of sorrow. - Posted by: Janice iwankow (Family friend) on: Jan 14, 2017
