BEN TAIT MCKINLAY On Tuesday, January 10, 2017, Ben McKinlay passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 83 years. Born and educated in Scotland, Ben came to Canada in 1960, was employed by the City of Winnipeg until 1967, moving to Dominion Bridge until retiring in 1993 as Credit Manager. Ben is survived by daughter Beth (Jeff), son Ian (Vicki); his three grandchildren. K.T., Luc, and Blaise and his new family upon marrying Ruth in 2005. He also leaves a brother (John) and many relatives in the U.K. Ben was a Past Master and Life Member of St. Johns #27 and the Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed sports soccer as both a coach and player, becoming Canadian Champions in 1962, with that team being inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. Ben also enjoyed following the fortunes of his beloved Glasgow Rangers. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • My family and I are deeply grieved to hear of Ben's passing. Our condolences to all of you. Ben was a great friend of my parents, Patience and Ernie White. He was especially kind and helpful to us after the loss of my dad. Ben was one of my favourite people in the whole world. He always took time to play with me as a child and chat with me as an adult. I share his love of soccer and had many happy times rooting for 'Uncle Ben' while he was on the field and having so much fun during the inevitable scrimmage that would break out at BBQ's or the beaches. Love and Hugs to all of you from the White family - Posted by: Heather White (Friend) on: Jan 27, 2017

  • So sorry to hear of Ben's passing. We had the pleasure of meeting Ben when he met Ruth and she came to Thunder Bay for a visit. Ruth is a dear family friend, who we fondly call Auntie Ruth. When she introduced us to Ben, we fell in love with him too. His wit and stories were always fun filled. To the McKinlay family, we are very sorry for your loss, he enjoyed life. To Ruth and her family, you are family to us. Love to all. See you Soon. Bev and Blaine Gallimore - Posted by: Blaine and Bev Gallimore (Thunder Bay) (Friend) on: Jan 23, 2017

  • We are very sorry to hear of Ben's passing. I worked with him at Dominion Bridge from 1973-1979. Ben was a very kind gentle soul. I remember him proudly talking about his children and his beloved Scotland. Make he rest in peace. - Posted by: Georgina Jones (former Dominion Bridge co-worker) on: Jan 17, 2017

  • Sorry to hear of Ben's passing. Most sincere condolences to Ruth and all those mourning his loss. Always went to Ben to obtain "English" wording for Auld Lang Zyne at our New Year's Eve gathering at Appleton Estates. His knowledge and contributions to the club will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Bill Humphreys (Friend) on: Jan 14, 2017
