ALFRED CUPEIRO September 29, 1933 January 13, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Alf is lovingly remembered by his wife Dodie; his children, Paul (Stefanie) and their children, Tate, Alex, Reed and Carmen Steele (Corey) and their children, Ryan and Kaitlyn; his sisters, Eulalia and Dolores. He is predeceased by his sister Carmen. Uncle Alf will be forever remembered by many nieces, nephews and close family friends. Alf was born in London, England and spent his early years in Devon, where he was evacuated during the war with his mother and sisters. At age 11, he attended Clark's College in Illford, and upon graduation, entered the apprentice program for the Royal Mail Lines Shipping Company, where he became an electrical engineer. His sailing career allowed him to tour the world on many ships - his first, last and favourite ship being the Andes, where he finished as a First Electrical Officer. In 1961, he met the love of his life, Dodie Houston. Soon after they were married and started a new life in Canada. In 1963, Alf joined the University of Winnipeg, where he remained until he retired in 1989 as Physical Plant Director. His time at the university enabled him to forge many lifelong friendships, which he and Dodie have maintained until this day. There is nothing Alf and Dodie enjoyed more than the time they spent with family and friends, travelling, sitting in rinks and at soccer fields, playing Canasta, camping and cottage life. Alf loved to entertain, always with a rum and coke in hand and, most of all, loved sharing his stories about his life in England and at sea Alf was a fantastic storyteller. He was an avid Westham United soccer fan, and passed on his knowledge of the game to many a young soccer player. He will always be remembered for his handiwork and ability to fix anything, whenever he could lend a hand. His general repairs and creations in wood, paint or cork will remain testaments to his many talents. Right up to his last weeks he could still be found tinkering in his workshop or with his MGB in the garage. A celebration of Alf's life will be held on Saturday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Charles Country Club. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
