MARY BEVERLEY COPPINGER December 4, 1918 - January 8, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mom is lovingly remembered by her; son Stephen (Janet), and daughter Diane Ramage; grandchildren Christopher Coppinger (Kendra), Lori Bourbonnais (Rod); Jesse Ramage (Jennifer), Simon Ramage; and her great-grandchildren, Ava, Isaac and Gavin Coppinger and Rachel and Taylor Bourbonnais; her sister Margaret Geres and several nieces. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Stephen in 2002; son Murray in 1994; and sister Geraldine Gunderson in 2015. Mom loved life to the fullest. As a young person growing up in Edmonton in the 20's and 30's she loved the outdoors, skiing and horseback riding in the Rockies. And later she enjoyed badminton, curling, golfing, cross country skiing, sewing and watercolour painting. Mary met Stephen while they both worked at Marshall Wells Wholesale Hardware in Edmonton. They married in 1943, just before he was posted overseas for the last two years of the Second World War. During the war, Mom worked as a civilian with the US Air Force in Edmonton. On Dad's return from overseas they settled in Stettler, Alberta. Here they raised their family and built a summer cottage at Buffalo Lake. With Marshall Wells, the family moved from Stettler to Edmonton to Saskatoon to West Vancouver and then to Winnipeg where they retired in 1985 and moved to Victoria, BC. In Victoria, they made many friends and enjoyed retirement. Mom and Dad loved to travel to many places around the world, and after Dad's passing she continued to travel with her children. At the age of 92, Mom returned to Winnipeg to be closer to her family, and happily resided at the Seine River Retirement Residence. Mom spent much of her time as a homemaker raising a family and partaking in a variety of volunteer activities. She especially loved and devoted herself to her family. Mom was very generous and thoughtful. She had a very positive attitude and had a wonderful sense of humour, which stayed with her to the end of her life. She enjoyed excellent health for over 97 years, and only since a fall at her residence this past June did her health begin to deteriorate. The family would like to thank the kind folks at Poseidon Care Centre for their devotion to the care of Mom during the last few months. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Victoria, BC. A private Celebration of Life is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in mom's memory may be made to a charity of choice. Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Mrs. Coppinger and I had nice conversations whenever we saw each other. Her granddaughter Lori would come with her caseload while I was filing books. As a community volunteer I have a diverse philosophy to the kids, and know they are most appreciative of the work I do. I got this volunteer position through S.C.E. Lifeworks and still continue to be the fabric of Ecole Robert H. Smith even though I am no longer associated with an agency that fosters employment for persons with different needs. - Posted by: Philip (Volunteers in a local school library) on: Oct 24, 2021

  • My mother lived across the hall from Mary at SRRR, and we got to know her over a year and one half and we appreciated talking with her and seeing how well she got along with a minimum of support in her advancing age.
