CATHERINE PHYLLIS CHRISTIANSON (nee WESTMACOTT) It is with sadness that Cathie's family announces her passing, at the age of 89 years, on January 7, 2017, at Grace Hospital after a short illness. Cathie was predeceased by her husband, Benedikt Arason Christianson and also by her father, Arthur, mother, Phyllis, and brothers, Robert and Delmar and her nephew, Robert Jr. She leaves her children Janice (Jim), Joan, Linda (Murray), Kenneth (Debra) and Carol. She will be greatly missed by grandchildren, Kristjana, Catherine (Ben), Nicole (Jorge), Wesley (Wendy), Dana (Tim) and Marie, and great-grandson, Alexander, born in 2016, as well as nieces and nephews Rod (Carolyn), Robin (Sam), Rick (Jan), Keith (Kathy), Blair (Kim) and their families. She is survived by sisters-in-law Margaret, Elaine and Brigitte, and predeceased by sisters-in-law Pauline Madsen and Mary Rae. Mum's dear friend Joan Gow (nee Forrest) who we knew as "Auntie Joan" also predeceased her and is survived by husband, Cliff, children Tracey and Colin and grandchildren. Mum grew up in West Kildonan and attended Victory and Centennial Schools before taking a secretarial course and working until she and Dad started a family and moved to East Kildonan. Later, when they returned to Winnipeg Mum worked in the 'marking room' at Sears and enjoyed her time with the "Sears Ladies" as we knew them. When Mum celebrated her 85th birthday, friends from her childhood, married life and her years at Sears, attended with extended family to wish her well. It was the last big celebration she was able to attend due to her worsening illness. During their 51 years together, Mum and Dad lived in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Brandon and Matlock with retirement winters in Arizona and British Columbia. For many years they were active members of The Sunny Sam's trailer club. After Dad's death, Mum continued at Matlock with her dog, Bogie, who repaid her adoption of him with companionship and protection. When Mum's health required that she move to Winnipeg, Bogie moved in with the 'grand-dogs'. Mum lived at Riverwood for several years until her declining health required a move to West Park Manor. The family would like to thank the staff at West Park Manor for their care of Mum and the many kindnesses shown during her stay. Thanks as well to Doctors Drobot and Joshua and the staff on the 5th floor at Grace General Hospital for their care prior to her passing. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should you wish, donations in her memory can be made to Winnipeg Pet Rescue or the Winnipeg Humane Society. Bardal (Sherbrook Street) in charge of arrangements. A memorial service for our mother and grandmother will be held at a future date. This obituary may also be viewed at www.bardal.ca
