ALICE GELDART
Born: Apr 18, 1924
Date of Passing: Jan 15, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALICE GELDART With great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Alice Geldart (nee Medwid), 92, on January 15, 2017, at Southeast Personal Care Home. She is survived by her daughters: Sharon Duncan, husband Rob, and son Scott; Linda Dunwoody and her partner Hank Mesman, son Christopher Hunter, all of Winnipeg, and nieces and nephews in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald in 1998, as well as her parents John and Anne Medwid (nee Sebansky), brothers Carl, Andrew, Michael and Peter, and sisters Irene and Mary. Mom was born on April 18, 1924 on a farm outside Sheho, Saskatchewan. At age 16, she left the farm for Yorkton, SK where she worked at the local hospital. It was in Yorkton she met and married a young man from Albert, NB who happened to be stationed with the R.C.A.F. at the base nearby. Married in 1943 during the war, they were transferred many times across Canada during our Dad's military career. The last move was to Winnipeg in 1972 where Dad continued to work for DND. Mom was a talented woman like many of the Second World War generation. She was first and foremost a homemaker and mother, and proud of it. There wasn't a type of craft she couldn't master, but her greatest talent was cuisine and home cooking. The whole family became her testers for her creations, all of which looked like they could grace the cover of a cookbook. Travel with Dad was her greatest joy, as they set off on adventures in their RV after Dad's retirement until his sudden passing in 1998. The other great joy was her two grandsons, Chris and Scott. She was a huge CFL fan, especially the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Rider Pride all the way. The family extends thanks to the very attentive staff at Southeast Personal Care Home for her care during her last weeks, and also to Dr. Adam at Victoria Hospital for her compassion and genuine concern for our Mom. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, Roman Catholic Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. Flowers are graciously declined and donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 would be preferred. Voyage Funeral Home 1577 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg.
