  • My heartfelt sympathy to your family. - Posted by: Burga Kruse (neighbour) on: Jun 10, 2017

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Rolf when I purchased his home in Island Lakes 2 years ago. Rolf was a person of warmth and laughter. We had several opportunities to meet when while finalizing the sale/purchasing of the house. Not your typical sale transaction, Rolf asked me to attend to his home to go over important information. He was an organized man who presented me with manuals for the furnace and AC, and all the appliances. He showed me where all the shut off valves were, and the little secrets to the operation of his home. Then Rolf regaled me with stories of his life; his wife and sons, his grandchildren...his cabin...his trips to Cuba, Rolf shared his photography and talked about working in the Teak store. He shared that he had hoped it would be me who purchased his home out of all the people who viewed it. I remember when I showed up to put in my offer, he said with a great big smile "It is YOU!!" He spoke about how he had had the house built and how they loved it. He took me on a walkabout, pointing out all the best features. I, in response, promised to take good care of it and cherish it as he did....and I do, Rolf. I know you are looking down and now know how much joy I feel here. When it came time for Rolf to vacate his home, I drove to the Senior residence on Ridgecrest to help him and his dear wife unpack boxes. I met his son Lars and Rolf's ever so polite grandson. I could tell in those moments spent unpacking that Rolf missed the house and was struggling, but he put on a brave face and spoke about the need to adjust. In every moment we shared together, he was always a gentle soul, a gentleman, a truly lovely person. I always intended to have Rolf and Annamarie back to now 'my house' for a cup of tea in the warmer months on the deck out back. We spoke about it during the several times I did pop in to visit them at Ridgecrest. It never did come to fruition. I feel sad that time slipped away and I didn't follow through. A lesson to never put off what is important in life. I am so sorry. Rest in Peace Rolf. You will be missed. To Rolf's family, I send my courage and strength during this difficult time. I will hold you in my thoughts and prayers, and hope that you find Peace in the memories you shared in Rolf's life journey. - Posted by: Elizabeth Fawcett (Acquaintance) on: Jan 19, 2017
