Date of Passing: Jan 10, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY FRANCES SWITA Peacefully, at the Holy Family Nursing Home, Mary Frances Swita passed away on January 10, 2017. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Eleanor Shewchuk (John), son-in-law, Dennis Harrisko, grandsons, David (Lisa), Daniel (Diane), and Jesse (Wendy), granddaughter Brittany (Michael Johnson), and five great-grandchildren; also her sister Wanda Cooke. She was predeceased by her husband Frank (1974), her daughter Karen (2013), her brother Walter Zub (2002), and an infant son Peter Andrew. Mom was born in the North End of Winnipeg on March 17, 1917 and resided there all of her life. Her family always came first, as she welcomed everyone with her wonderful meals. She was an expert seamstress, had an eye for colour, and a flair for decorating. She was fiercely independent and after her husband's unexpected death continued to travel to Europe, Phoenix, Mexico, and the Caribbean with her group of family and friends. She remained in her home, maintaining it and her garden well into her eighties, then making the decision to move to a seniors apartment. Once settled in at the Ivan Franko Manor, she continued to entertain family and friends. The onset of macular degeneration facilitated her move to a supportive housing facility, Arlington Haus, and finally to the Holy Family Nursing Home. Mom was always thinking of others, and was always ready and willing to take part in activities and events with others, pitching in where needed. She was the best Babcia. The family would like to thank the staff of the Holy Family Nursing Home for their exceptional care, love, and devotion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to the Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, MB., R2W 1T9, the CNIB, or a charity of your choice. A private family memorial service will be held at a future date.
