EDITH HEINRICHS (1935 - 2017) On January 9, 2017 with family members at her side, Edith peacefully passed from her earthy life to eternal life with her God. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband Roy in 2012; by her sister Betty, niece Holly, nephew Darryl and her parents Alex and Dorothy Sumpter. She will be lovingly remember by her sister Margaret Stewart, her three children Doug, Terri, David, niece Karen, nephews Greg and Cameron (Kellie) three grandchildren - Jason, Janine and Misha and four great-grandchildren - Brayden, Alexia, Jacob and Madison. Edith was born in Dauphin, Manitoba but moved to Winnpeg for nursing training. Two years later Edith graduated with her RN and went on to join the nursing team at St. Boniface Hospital. She later left to work with the elderly at Luther Home in the 1970s. While returning to University of Manitoba to complete her Bachelor of Nursing she worked in the Genetics program out of the Health Sciences Centre. After graduation with her BN she then moved onto becoming the Director of Nursing for Poseidon Nursing Home in the 1980s. The last parts of her working years were at Manitoba Health in the role of Nursing consultant for Rural Manitoba, working directly under the Health Minister. During retirement years Edith and husband Roy traveled all over Europe with her mother and father and two sisters. For sixteen years during retirement, Edith and her husband traveled to Mesa, Arizona every winter and lived at the EL Mirage Mobile Park where they participated in community events. They were blessed to have made several close friends during these years. During the spring and summer months in Winnipeg, Edith and husband Roy were paramount with their generosity to those who were less fortunate. They volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Christmas Cheer Board, provided donations to Heart and Stroke, CancerCare, Jocelyn House, Big Brothers, Siloam Mission, Pregnancy Distress Family Support Services, Winnipeg Harvest and shopped for food and clothing to donate to the homeless. Edith and her husband regularly attended the Roman Catholic Church services each week and participated in church activities. The family would like to thank all the nursing staff at Concordia Nursing Place for all their love and care they showed our mother over the past two years, Our biggest thank you is to our mothers's special companion Ursula, who displayed love, kindness, patience and advocacy for our mother's wellbeing. Ursula always went over and above her role as companion to the provide the best quality of life for Edith. She and Edith had a very special relationship, spending time together in the courtyard, or participating in the activities in the nursing home. Edith and Ursula could be seen laughing, singing, joking and loving one another in their own special way. Ursula will always be a very special part of our family, we love you so much. Edith's celebration of life will be held in early spring or summer and her ashes will be interred beside her husband Roy. The family will post the place, date and time of the funeral service in the paper closer to the summer months. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's society of Winnipeg, Palliative Care of a charity of one's choice.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Mom, I miss you everyday, some days are easier than others but still feel a huge emptiness inside. I can no longer give you a hug and kiss and talk with you or laugh with you on this earth, but one day we will again be together. Our family is so much smaller and our time together happens occasionally but I will continue to try and keep our family communicating with one another and taking time to be together. This was always a value that was so important to you. Forgive me for not being able to have you live with me because of my job and busy life being a grandma. i will hold you close to my heart and remember all those times we had together. Be at peace mom, no more pain, loneliness and suffering. Love you forever. Terri Tucker (daughter). - Posted by: Terri. Tucker (Daughter) on: Feb 26, 2017
