LORRAINE RUTH HEMMERLING (nee RUPPEL) Lorraine Ruth Hemmerling (nee Ruppel) died peacefully at her home, on January 13, 2017. Her days were spent in her kitchen, where she created so many memories for her family and friends. The kitchen was where Lorraine held court in that space, she laughed, she cried, she argued, she lectured and always, she loved. Lorraine cared for and loved many children through her years: her own seven children and several foster children. She provided a caring place in her home for her aging father and for those in the community who faced challenges and hardships. Lorraine touched many lives. Lorraine cared deeply about her family, her siblings and their families and her community. The family home was a place filled with laughter, music and lively discussion. Lorraine was always ready for a cup of coffee and an engaging conversation at her kitchen table. The last several years have been a difficult journey for Lorraine and her family. We want to acknowledge Lorraine's care givers, who provided consistent and compassionate care for Lorraine in the comforts of her home. Thank you for giving Lorraine her dignity in aging and in dying. Lorraine, predeceased by Larry, her husband of 50 years, leaves a legacy of seven children, 22 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. In keeping with Lorraine's wishes, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place and an interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
