DONALD WESLEY MANSON With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Wesley Manson, our husband, father, grandfather and lifelong friend, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Don was 70. He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Olive Manson and is survived by his wife Jane; son and daughter, James (Sharon) and Jennifer (Greg); grandchildren, Emily and Austin and countless friends and former colleagues. Don was born in Weldon, Saskatchewan and spent the first two decades of his life on the farm. Eldest of six, Don is also survived by Dennis (Debbie), Harold (Marlene), Joy (Jean-François), Harley (Melody) and Wanda and their children and grandchildren. He moved to Winnipeg in the late 1960s to work in the insurance and financial services industries. His career spanned over 40 years, mostly with the New York Life Insurance Company and Canada Life Assurance Company. He was a dedicated insurance professional and mentor and enjoyed every moment of it. He was well-respected by all who worked with him. Don and Jane met in the summer of 1970 and were married that same year. On December 29, 2016, Don and Jane celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary with close family by their side. Outside of work, Don was a kind and devoted husband and father, bringing the kids to music lessons, swimming lessons, hockey and ringette games and the like. Later in life, Don was equally devoted to his grandchildren, Emily and Austin, who loved their "Papa" as much as he loved them. Don enjoyed curling and golf, bridge and poker clubs and a good single malt scotch. After their retirement, Don and Jane became avid travellers, visiting over 23 countries together. In the end, death came as gently as it could. Don left us peacefully, holding his wife's hand one last time. In accordance with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Don's life is being planned, to take place later this summer on Hecla Island at the family cottage Don's labour of love. Many thanks to the staff at Manitoba CancerCare for their care and support over the last few months. Donations to Manitoba CancerCare would be appreciated. Dad, we love you and will miss you always.
