EDNA BERNICE FINES Peacefully on January 25, 2017 Edna passed away at her home in Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall. "Nan" will be lovingly remembered by her sons Gordon (Linda) of Stonewall, and Greg of Birds Hill, as well as her eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Shari (Dave) Cam and Bryce; Roshelle (Joe) Thomas and Duncan; Curtis (Carolyn) Sarah and Madison; Ryan (Tricia) Brooke-Lyn, Christopher and Grace; Matthew (Cassie) Rowan and Evrit; Cassandra (Brian) Lucas; Victoria (Devon); Halle; sisters-in-law Emmie Campbell, and Bea Fines Edna was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd, of 60 years in 2005, daughter Lois in 2006, and son-in-law Ross in 2002. She was born to Gordon and Anne Campbell and raised along with her sisters Dorothy, Shirley and brother Albert (Buck) in the Greenwood area. Edna often spoke of the great relationship she had with her siblings while growing up on the family farm. She would work in the barn, the fields or the yard but refused to milk cows. That was Dot's job. She spent many hours in the company of her Dad who was the main fiddle player for dances and parties in the area. She played baseball and other sports, but particularly enjoyed a sleigh or wagon ride to town with dad. Mom's mother Anne was a wonderful character and is probably responsible for Edna's own patience and good sense of humor. Edna and Lloyd were married in 1944 and farmed together until retiring to their house in Balmoral and then to Sprucewood Manor, also in Balmoral. Knitting was a productive hobby and many new babies got their start in a pair of Edna's booties. While she enjoyed the time spent with her friends volunteering in Balmoral, whether it be the church, fall supper, curling rink, memorial hall, or wherever they were needed, there was nothing better than a Saturday night at the Balmoral ladies bonspiel. Europe, Florida, and around Canada were places they went, with many miles travelled to fairs or shows, or just to check out the countryside. A gathering at the Williams, Lillies, Stewarts, Pauls, Slaters, Lattas or others around town was a must attend even if you had to take the skidoo. In her widowed years, Edna began to need more help and we are most thankful for her homecare workers who enabled her to stay in her home much longer than would have been possible on her own. A huge thanks as well to all the caring staff at Rosewood Lodge whose consistent and loving care allowed Edna to spend her elder years with dignity. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Balmoral United Church, in Balmoral, MB. Interment will take place at Victoria Cemetery.
