Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJORGE ALBERTO CHAVES September 10, 1959 - January 29, 2017 On January 29, 2017, surrounded by family, Jorge Chaves, passed away peacefully after a hard fought battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Mona, daughters Dia (Andrew) and Jena (Chris); his granddaughter Eliana. He also leaves to mourn his parents Jose and Filomena, brothers Jose, Arsenio (Maria), Ernesto (Lori), sister Ermelinda (Silvino), and sister-in-law Ana Maria; sister-in-law Donna (Dennis) and brother-in-law Dennis (Sue); numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew. He was predeceased by his brother Dinis, father-in-law Gordon and mother-in-law Mona. Jorge was born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal. He immigrated to Winnipeg at the age of nine with his family. He was the youngest of six siblings, raised in the west end of Winnipeg. He was an extremely hard worker and loyal employee, he worked for almost 40 years in the drywall industry, the majority of the time was with Econo Wall and Ceilings. Jorge and Mona had many great years together raising their daughters. Lots of time spent camping and travelling. Jorge developed a passion for the game of golf over the years, anywhere he went his golf clubs were in tow. He even got to check golfing at the beautiful Kapalua golf course in Maui off his bucket list. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humour and his ability to memorize one line of song lyrics, singing them repeatedly. He was the rock of our family and stood by us through many good and trying times. He will be deeply missed. Prayers will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 8:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin. Funeral will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jorge's memory may be made to St. Boniface Hospital's Palliative Care Foundation.

I got to know Jorge better when we played pooled together one summer. He had such a wit! There was never any question about how he felt about Mona. She was everything to him. His fire and his passion was fueled by his family and friends. I know that when I arrive in heaven, Jorge will be there with that infectious smile, an arm around my shoulder and offering me a beer for the journey! I will miss him. My deepest sympathies to Mona, Dia and Jena. Eliana will hear so many stories about her Grandpa that she will know him and love him too. - Posted by: Cheryl Stapleton (Friend of the family) on: Feb 01, 2017
