Date of Passing: Jan 29, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSE-MARIE BERNICOT October 9, 1948 - January 29, 2017 With love and sadness in our hearts, our family announces that Rose-Marie went on her final journey on Sunday, January 29, 2017, to be with the Creator, Gitche Manitou. She was 68 years old. Marie was predeceased by her father Jean-Paul, her mother Veronica, sister Marlene, brother Paul, stepson Evan Sr., and Uncle Vic. She is survived by her husband, Wally; stepdaughters, Laurie, and Angela (Kevin); daughter-in-law Fanny; brothers Joe, Rob, and Lorne; sisters Agnes, and Doreen; sister-in-law Marion; six grandchildren, Anna-Maria, Evan Jr. (Shannon), Christopher, Nicholas, Teddy, and Blaine; Uncle Tom (Judi), and many nephews and nieces. Marie had a strong work ethic, and as a young adult she held many jobs including waitress, bartender, working for Kromar Printing, and in an optometrist office. However, she was proudest of returning to school to complete her Bachelor of Education degree. From 1981 to 2003, Marie was an elementary school teacher at Strathcona School until her retirement. She was an avid reader, and tried to instill a love for reading with her grandchildren and her students. Marie enjoyed country music. She also loved to travel, and was able to visit Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and travelled extensively throughout North America. Above all of this, Marie loved her family, and we loved her more than words can ever express. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street with Father Dominique Kerbrat officiating. Interment of ashes will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Marie asked that donations be made to Winnipeg Harvest. Arrangements entrusted to Bardal Funeral Home, www.bardal.ca

I first met Marie in my early years of teaching at Strathcona School, shortly before her retirement. It was a pleasure to know her, and I still laugh at some of our adventures there together. Rest In Peace, Marie. - Posted by: Alana Chernecki (Colleague ) on: Feb 18, 2021

My condolences to Mrs. Bernicot's family. I remember her teaching her students at Strathcona School. She was so small, I had a difficult time telling the difference from a student to the teacher! She was always a pleasure to talk to in the school. May Mrs. Bernicot rest in peace. - Posted by: Lorraine Kehler (Parent at Strathcona School) on: Feb 04, 2017

Very sad to hear of Marie's passing. She was a fellow classmate at the U of Manitoba B.Ed program (1977-81). Marie had a very gentle way about her and shared her kind heart with everyone she met. A wonderful lady who will be missed. Rest In Peace Marie. - Posted by: David Taylor-Young (Friend & Colleague) on: Feb 03, 2017
