Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELLEN JEAN LOWERY May 13, 1937 - January 30, 2017 It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our Ellen, after a brave battle with cancer (multiple myeloma). Mom had written her own story and wanted us to post it instead of an obituary. We had to change a few things to make it current. (Sorry Mom, hope you're ok with that.) I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up on a farm in nearby Rosser, MB. I attended a typical one room school house from Grade One to Nine. I then moved to Winnipeg with my parents and younger brother Ray, where I attended high school (Tec Voc). I took a secretarial course and worked as a secretary for several years. On my first job, I met my husband to be - Ben and I were married in 1958 at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Winnipeg. I joined the Anglican Church at that time. We have two daughters, Susan and Donna. We had no grandchildren but two beautiful grand-dogs, Lucy and Scooter who brought us many years of joy. I was lucky enough to be a stay-at-home Mom. We moved several times with Ben's job(s), including Winnipeg, Vancouver, Toronto and London, England. We were fortunate to be able to take advantage of all the travel that was afforded to us through Ben's work, including Australia, New Zealand, China, Great Britain, Hungary, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Malta and Norway - Exciting Times! We retired in Victoria in 1999 and have enjoyed the island life. I was always interested in sports, track and field, tennis, curling, baseball and golf. I played all of them but was just happy being a spectator. My bridge, knitting and walking have given me a lot of joy. Her laughter and light will be missed. Funeral Service to be held on Friday, February 10 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's and All Angel's Church, 4733 West Saanich Road (followed by a reception and memory sharing in the Church Hall) Victoria, BC. In lieu of flowers, Ellen has requested a donation be made to BC Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Sands of Colwood

Sorry this is coming so late but just heard about Ellen. We are sorry to hear of her passing. It is so too bad we all became so distant. We think of you all often. - Posted by: Marilyn and Gerry Fender (Cousin) on: Apr 22, 2017
