ELAINE MARTIN (nee BESTH) Surrounded by the love of many, Elaine ended her two and a half year struggle with Pancreatic Cancer on February 2, 2017. She will be forever loved and missed by her husband Brady, son and daughter-in-law, Devon and Kelsey, daughter Alanna, sister Maureen (Tim) Silk, sister-in-law, Angela Martin, brother-in-law Gary (Joanne) Martin, numerous nephews, nieces and countless friends. Elaine was born to Vince and Sheila Besth on January 29, 1957 and grew up in East Kildonan, graduating from Miles Macdonell Collegiate. She was employed with the City of Winnipeg for 35 years and a further four years with the Assiniboine Park Conservancy before fully retiring to tackle cancer. Cancer was just one of many illnesses that Elaine fought throughout her life. She never complained and always hid her pain from others. She strived for excellence in every task she undertook and if there was a problem that needed resolving, Elaine was the final solution. There are not enough words to express our love for Elaine or describe her many talents and attributes. Aside from her family, Elaine's next greatest love was her friends, as she always believed "you can never have enough friends". In that regard she was truly blessed. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Elaine's life will be planned for a future date in the Spring, with details to follow. At that time we hope you will bring your personal stories and memories of how she enriched your life so we can all share, laugh, and remember such a remarkable individual. Elaine was always quick to praise the caring, intelligent and professional people in our medical system and she would think us remiss if we did not give thanks to the countless caregivers and medical teams who took such great care of her needs throughout her health journey. They are too numerous to mention, but will never be forgotten by a grateful family. Flowers are gratefully declined. If anyone so desires, a donation to further the wonderful work of CancerCare Manitoba would be deeply appreciated.

February 2, 2019. Elaine, two years since your passing, but it still feels like a short time. Remembering you dear friend and thinking of memories shared. You helped me in my time of sorrow when I lost Matt and I will never forget your words of comfort and advise. You were a friend to many and to many people you were a friend. Talking and being with you with your shining smile and positive attitude were always an uplifting experience. - With much love, your friend Guy (Frobisher) - Posted by: Guy Frobisher (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2019

I will never forget the friendship my cousin Elaine offered me. We share the same date of birth, 1/29, and I always received a card from her when I was a child. My last time with her was when she and Maureen visited Chicago. We went to the Bowie Now art gallery at the MCA. Our Irish cousin Cillian was in town from England. We all laughed and talked and had one of the best afternoons life itself ever gives us. I know she is entertaining our Savior and all the saints now with that wonderful spirit. - Posted by: Vince Bruckert (Cousin) on: Feb 06, 2017

I had the joy of working with Elaine for a few short years at the Conservancy where we shared an office. Many afternoon breaks and lunches were spent chatting and laughing-- she always had a funny story to share. Elaine was easily one of the most brilliant people I've ever had the joy of working with. She knew everything! Nothing ever phased or overwhelmed her. She was always beaming with the most contagious smile. She truly brightened my days. She spoke often of her love for her husband and her children, and I am so very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Stephanie (Co-Worker at APC) on: Feb 05, 2017

Don and I express Our Deepest Heartfelt Sympathy to Brady, Devon/Kelsey, Alanna and family at the passing of Elaine. She was a good friend and a beautiful person. She could make you laugh, in spite of any situation. Brady was the Love of her Life! Her children, she loved so dearly - she couldn't be more prouder of them, too! I am glad she had these few extra years with them and the last trips that she was able to take. She surely packed everything she could, in the time God allotted her. I wish there was still more for all of them - all of us! Now my friend, you will be touring the Heavens! I know you are at Peace but I hope you don't mind, if I shed some tears today. - with my Love Cheri - Posted by: Cheri Kasianchuk (Friend and coworker) on: Feb 04, 2017

We are grateful to have known and loved this brilliant, talented, giving and adorable lady. Bubbly smile, warm heart and super sense of humor. We'd call her an 'earth angel', coz we were blessed knowing her and for any time spent with her. As many have said - words are not easily found to describe what she means/meant to us. Over about 14 or so years, we came to know her as a dear friend and a 'sister from another mother'. We pray that any sadness we all feel is replaced quickly with just fond memories of the wonderful woman she was. Our heartfelt love and sympathy to her wonderful family and all those who will miss her - that's a very long list. God bless. - Posted by: BRIAN AND JAN OUELLETTE (friend/family) on: Feb 04, 2017

Words cannot express how sad I am to hear of Elaine's passing. Not only was she a great mentor at work but a true friend always encouraging in her kind words. She was a keen listener, always taking the time to lend an ear. She had a great sense of humour. The world has truly lost a bright star. She will be missed. Condolences to her husband Brady and her entire family. - Posted by: Beryl Simon (Co-worker/friend) on: Feb 04, 2017

Brady and family, I speak for many in offering our condolences. I cannot begin to describe the wonderful person we were privileged to work with for many years. Always the knowledgeable professional, willing to assist and always with a smile on her face. She actually did "light up" the room when she attended meetings. Many of us were sad when she retired, and heartbroken now that she is no longer with us. - Posted by: Barb D'Avignon (co-worker) on: Feb 04, 2017
