ANNE ZAPPE On February 1, 2017, it is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of their mother and grandmother, Anne at the age of 103 years. Anne is survived by her loving son John (Sharon); granddaughters, Andrea, Alissa (Attila); nieces, Pat, Jo-Anne and nephew Ted. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1959; her parents, Josaphat and Parascevia Ostapiw; sisters-in-law, Mary and Anne; brothers-in-law, Ted and Joe. Anne was born in Winnipeg and grew up in East Kildonan and attended St. Alphonsus School. She married Walter in 1937 and lived in North End for most of her life. Many happy years were spent with her husband building their log cottage at Ingolf, Ontario. Anne was widowed at age 46, raised her young son and was a devoted daughter who cared for her parents until their passing. With Anne's strong will, determination and independence, she lived in her own home until 96 years. Due to many serious falls and long hospital stays, she moved to Devonshire Assisted Living for two years and then to St. Joseph's Residence where she lived for her remaining five and one-half years. Anne was loved by all, touched many lives, was a very special Baba to many, taught us to keep on going and never give up. Throughout her life, Anne was actively involved in her church, St. Joseph's Parish and the U.C.W.L. Family time was very important to Mom and we all cherished her Sunday dinners with her great cooking and baking. Her specialty being blueberry pie. Anne had an artistic flair for floral designing, needlepoint, decoupage and Ukrainian embroidery. After Anne retired, she travelled extensively to Hawaii, Mexico, Bahamas and USA. The family would like to sincerely thank Drs. Terry and Andrea Babick and the Unit 2 staff at St. Joseph's Residence for their loving care. A special thank you to Anne's friends and companions, Darlene and Phyllis for their compassion, love and care. A celebration of Anne's life will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Rev. Fr. Frank Szadiak, CSsR. officiating. Interment to follow. If so desired, donations may be made in Anne's memory to Friends of St. Joseph's c/o St. Joseph's Residence, 1149 Leila Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R2P 1S6. Dear John and Sharon, My thoughts are with you. Ann was a life-long friend to my parents - happy visits to the cottage at Ingolf that included Ann's parents were cherished times. The socializing at church was continuous. And when the home next to my parents was going to be sold, Ann and her mother were quickly notified before the house could go on the market. And Bingo! She and her Mother became the new next door neighbours. The visiting continued daily for so many years until Stephanie passed away in 2008. Ann was always sunny side up with a quick wit that we thoroughly enjoyed. You were fortunate to have her for so many years. God Bless you and your family. - Posted by: Lorraine Ball (Sidorchuk) () on: Feb 11, 2017

I spent many a summer knocking on 'Bubba's' cottage door at Ingolf. I spent summers with my Grandparents, two doors down from her, and would run to her door many mornings to visit her Grand daughter Alyssa. Many days Bubba Zappe would answer the door, more awake than Alyssa, and invite me in for a little visit. From time to time, I would often get the chance to mooch an amazing meal. Great memories of Anne! What a great, adventurous life to spend as much time as she did at the Lake - Must have been great for the soul to be able to live comfortably to 103! She will be missed, my condolences to the Zappe family for their loss. - Posted by: Lara Wilson (Friend & Neighbour) on: Feb 07, 2017

I remember Anne best from visiting her at Ingolf. Her smile was contagious and her stories so full of spirit and most entertaining. China tea cup in hand and a tasty treat made by Sharon was the staple of story time. Her loving family kept her going and her love of all life around her. Rest in peace dear Anne. - Posted by: Tanyss Ward (Friend) on: Feb 04, 2017
