Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNANCY PATRICIA SHELLRUDE December 16, 1947 - February 4, 2017 On Saturday, February 4, 2017, at her home in Okotoks, Alberta, Nancy Shellrude passed away suddenly at the young age of 69 years. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba December 16, 1947, Nancy grew up in Stonewall, Manitoba. She received her education at the University of Winnipeg and received a degree in Education and Political Science. Nancy worked within the schools for several years and then found a fulfilling placement as an adult educator at Selkirk Mental Health Centre. After retirement, she enjoyed her winters in Texas where she learned how to golf. She was especially fond of reading, travelling, theatre and was a long-time advocate of literacy. She decided that she wanted to make the jump to Okotoks, Alberta to be close to her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren who she cherished so much. After a heroic and successful battle with cancer she continued to make new friends, be involved in several volunteer activities and continue her golfing with her grandson. One of her favourite activities was taking her grandchildren for ice cream to one of the local ice cream shops in Okotoks. She enjoyed spending time with her neighbours and going on various outings with them. Nancy is survived by her two sons, Jason Hayes and his wife Dana of Calgary and David Hayes and his wife Stacey; grandchildren Alexa and Damon of Okotoks; sister Joanne Fleury of Scarborough; brother Ramsay Boyd and his wife Maureen of Marietta, Georgia; nieces Allison Cheron and her husband Bret of Pickering, Ontario and Maureen Davey and her husband Shawn of Toronto, Ontario; nephews Geoff Boyd and his wife Lakey of Birmingham, Alabama and Michael Boyd and his partner Jen of Athens, Georgia. A Celebration of Life will take place during the summer months at Nancy's final resting place in Manitoba. Friends and family, who so desire, may make any donations to the Literacy for Life Foundation (www.litforlife.com). Dear Jason and David and you individual extended families. We are truly sorry to learn of your dear Mother and Grandmother Nancy's passing; long before her time. Your Mother was a wonderful lady and she will be sadly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Our families were living in Oakbank, Manitoba raising our children when we had the privilege to cross paths. Although your dear Mother has left this physical world, she will live on in your hearts and in all those memories you made together. May you find strength in your individual ways to help you through this difficult time. Blessings to all of you. - Posted by: Valerie and Tony Kent, Landin Kent and Marcia Lucas (Neighbours from Oakbank, Manitoba) on: Feb 09, 2017
