GERTRUDE CHODIRKER
Date of Passing: Feb 14, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE CHODIRKER It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of our mom, Gertie, at age 96, on February 14, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, parents Annie and Joe, sisters Esther and Phyllis, and brother Albert. Mom is survived by her sons Barry and Phil and his wife Rosy, grandchildren, Lisa and her husband Mark, Paul and his wife Lainey, and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Ben. She is also survived by a sister, Pauline Perlman of Newhall, CA, and her nieces and nephews. Our beautiful mother was truly a remarkable woman. There has to be something special about someone who was born on New Years Day and passed on Valentines Day. She was a brilliant student in her day who went on to work in her sister's furniture business in Vancouver for many years. Married to Joe for 41 years, she worked unselfishly to help provide a caring and loving home for her family. Mom sacrificed all of her personal needs so that her boys would be comfortable. Our mother did not just survive for 96 years; she persisted and prevailed with a magical combination of resilience and character. Gertie was active all her life enjoying Mah Jong with the girls, politics with Wolf Blitzer, and the occasional visit to the local casino. She truly enjoyed her Tuesday and Friday Bingo games at the Sharon Home. We would like to give thanks to the staff at the ICU unit at the Victoria, and for the quality care Mom received at the Sharon Home for the past six years. A special thank you to Rowena for her devotion to Gertie. A graveside service was held on February 16 at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery. Donations may be made to charity of choice.
