Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH ELEANOR MURRELL (née BARBER) April 10, 1922 - February 12, 2017 Ruth Eleanor Murrell, born in Winnipeg, MB, passed away peacefully in St. Norbert Personal Care Home, February 12, 2017. Ruth was predeceased by Bill, her beloved husband of 62 years; by her parents, Charles and Crystal Barber; and by her brother Edward Barber. She is survived by her three children: Bob (Rochelle), Marj (Jim Birley), and Frank (Wendy Barker), as well as six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Ruth graduated B.A., B.Education in 1944, receiving the Dr. R. Fletcher Medal for the highest academic standing. She taught in small rural one-room schools, garnering a wealth of experiences and stories to share with her future family. After her marriage she devoted all her time and energy to the well-being of her family and her community. She was active in Oxford and Westworth United Churches and volunteered at Grace Hospital and with Meals on Wheels. Summers since 1959 at the Murrell family cottage at Victoria Beach were a major highlight of Ruth's life with Bill and their children. Cottage life was full of adventure and the strengthening of family bonds for all of us. And a lot of hard work for Mom in the days before running water or indoor facilities. Mom was very grateful to have such a long and full life and was often quite surprised when we reminded her of her advanced age. Our family would like to thank the staff of the East Wing at St. Norbert Personal Care Home for their kind care of our mother over the last two years. Ruth's family is forever appreciative of Ruth's love and devotion. Her legacy of strong family ties and support of family members will continue. In accordance with Ruth's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Our sincere condolences, Marj and family. Your Mom was always so friendly and positive. We had many good chats over the years, usually standing at the corner! - Posted by: Kathy McKibbin (Neighbour at VB) on: Feb 25, 2017

Ruth was loving and kind to all of her family and especially to her brother, Eddie. After their father passed away, Ruth was pretty much Ed's guardian as she was eight years older. I remember her unconditional love and support of her brother and how much he admired her. Please accept my condolences to the entire family. With Love, Pat Barber - Posted by: Patricia Barber (Sister-in= Law) on: Feb 22, 2017
