Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. GORDON KEITH THOMPSON Suddenly on Monday, February 6, 2017, at his home, Keith Thompson, aged 77 years, passed away. Keith was born in Moose Jaw, SK on May 8, 1939 and attended Central Collegiate where he met his future wife Joan. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and then the University of Manitoba to pursue a career in dentistry where he started a private practice and raised his family. Keith served in the military reserves as a Captain with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. In the 1990s Keith sold his practice and went on to teach the next generation of dentists at the University of Manitoba, where he was Chief of Dentistry. A lifelong football enthusiast Keith excelled as a player in high school and later with the Saskatoon Hilltops, winning the Canadian Junior Championship in 1958. Later while living in Winnipeg he would take up coaching football and also would go on to win two provincial championships with the Maples Vikings 1984 and the North Winnipeg Nomads in the 1990s. Keith was also an assistant coach with the Maples Collegiate Marauders. After coaching, Keith was a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Keith was a devoted husband to his wife, Joan, of 55 years, and father to his three children. He enjoyed visiting with friends who stopped by, or just quiet conversations on the phone with family. He was always up for a game of cards with his great-nephews and nieces, and enjoyed hearing stories about what they were up to. Keith enjoyed watching TV and movies, reading books and cheering on his favourite team the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He followed the Hilltops on the radio, as well as the Toronto Blue Jays and the Winnipeg Jets. Keith is survived by his three children: Rob Thompson, Margot (Michael) Henson, and Christian (Corinna) Thompson; sister Beverley (Robert) Searcy; brother Bryne (Verna) Thompson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Keith was predeceased by his parents Irvin and Jean (McKay) Thompson, and his wife Joan (Olson) Thompson. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his name to the Special Olympics or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

I had the pleasure of playing for Keith and his son Christian when I was 14, in 1989. The respect that he showed to us young men is something that stands out to me and I look back on those days with fondness. I am thankful for him taking the time and effort to coach, and I am a better man for it. Although I have not seen him in decades, I have always remembered him and I was saddened to hear of his passing. He will live on fondly in my memory and my thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family. - Posted by: Calvin Polet (Former player) on: Feb 21, 2017

I am so sorry to hear of your dad Keith's passing. Just today, not knowing of his passing, I was telling a friend about how your Dad used to tease me (a 3 year old at the time who was smitten with "the boy next door") when we lived next door to Grandma & Grandpa (Jean & Irvin) in Moose Jaw. I also got to see him in Winnipeg when my Mom & Dad took me to his dental practice. I can't imagine a more thoughtful and gentle dentist. He will be missed, but he has left many wonderful memories. The heavens have a new burst of love as he reunites with his beloved Joan. Take care - many thoughts & prayers are with you. - Posted by: Laurel (Dyer) Krueger (Friend) on: Feb 19, 2017
