Date of Passing: Feb 10, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARLENE (JEANET) ROSINE Jeanet Arlene Rosine peacefully, in Kamloops, BC, on February 10, 2017, age 71, after a courageous battle with lung and brain cancer. Her loss is felt deeply by sons Darren Scherbain of Phuket, Thailand; Kevin Scherbain (Elena) of Kamloops; Travis Porter (Jacqueline) of Toronto; and Bram Porter of Guelph. Much loved sister to Ken Rosine (Janet) of Wasaga Beach, ON, Marilyn Rosine of Yardley, PA, and grandmother of Cecilia and Charlie Scherbain in Kamloops. Arlene was born December 6, 1945 in Rivercrest, MB to Samuel and Redena Rosine, whose deaths predeceased hers in 1967 and 1969 (respectively), as well as that of her youngest brother, Dennis, in 1990. As a teenager Arlene spent her summers working among other things as a camp counsellor at the YMHA. She graduated with a degree in Anthropology. Arlene was a renaissance woman with many talents and interests. Her love of aboriginal art resulted in co-founding Winnipeg's Wah-sa Gallery in 1976. In that same city, she worked for the Winnipeg Folk Festival, the North Main Development Corporation and the What's On publication. Arlene taught English and co-ran a Youth Hostel in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s. And, during the final 11 years of her career-life, taught ESL in South Korea, where she was and will be missed by her many students. Arlene leaves behind many friends including her caring sisters of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Kamloops, Lois Orten, Steven Moskovitch and Sharon Segal, Ross Porter, Gary Scherbain, and Bill Lobchuk. We will all miss her curious nature, her loving tenderness, her fondness for a good book, her enjoyment of many styles of music, and her infectious sense of humour. A tribute to Arlene will be held Thursday, February 23 at the Pyramid Cabaret, 176 Fort Street from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., to Celebrate her Life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre: http://www.uhn.ca/PrincessMargaret

Dear Marilyn, Rosine, Scherbain & Porter Families, Please accept my belated condolences on Arlene's passing. I had been away and only just heard the sad news from a friend of a friend - and so it goes. I was fortunate to have known Arlene, however briefly in the larger scheme of things, on and off earlier in life. I will remember her as a unique and amazing person. She was her own woman in so many great ways and embraced life with enviable fearlessness and openness. I am so sorry for your loss. I will remember Arlene with affection. I can't believe that almost a month has passed since Arlene's death. I -- like so many others, continue to miss her a great deal. Our history together as sisters was sometimes 'rocky' over the years, but since her initial diagnosis with cancer almost two years ago, things changed. And especially after my visiting her in Kamloops BC this past September. Many of my fondest memories from that visit (including a few totally bizarre happenings that occurred, during that time -- about which we laughed a LOT) will remain with me forever... She valued greatly her closest WPG friends -- as well as her Sorority Sisters in Kamloops, and I was so happy to have met many of them, Most importantly, she had been overwhelmed by the incredible support & love that had been put forth by her four sons... Large geographical distances between us for the biggest chunk of our adult years willy-nilly didn't really allow us to form closer relations that might have otherwise occurred -- not only between she & me, but with our families as well: a good number of 'cousins' barely know each other... A 'regret' that I believe both she & I recently felt... May you find peace, and peace, and peace, dearest Arlene... With much/ALL love, Marilyn - Posted by: Marilyn I.
