PATRICIA (PAT) MARY COOK (nee LYNCH) June 26, 1930 - February 16, 2017 Sadly, Pat passed away after a brief illness at Victoria Hospital on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the age of 86 years. Her leaving was peaceful, with family by her side. Pat will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her nine children, Michael (Velda), Mary, Teresa (Kevin) Leathwood, David (Val), Desmond (Shirley), John (Rita), Piper, Monica (Shannon) and Pat (Margje) Barter-Cook; fifteen grandchildren Steven, Bradley, Matthew, Daniel, Melanie, Sydney, Bryan, Elijah, Molly, Roan, Maggie, Tereasa, Shae, Elijah and Benji and three great-grandchildren, Lily, Violet and Poppy. She is also mourned by her sisters-in-law, Kathy (Ray) Morris and Sheila Cook; brothers-in-law, Rolly (Sandy), Roger (Susan), and Des Findlay, as well as cousins Patrick and Henry Lynch and Patsy (Gaetano) Lamantia in Quebec. Mom lost Michael (Mickey), her husband of 59 years, in May 2013 and has now gone to rejoin him. She was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Catherine Lynch; her sister and brother-in-law Kay and Ken Burwash and brother Owen Lynch. Mom was born to Irish and Scottish immigrant parents and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Aberdeen Street. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy and later, while working as a clerk with her friend, Alice, she had occasion to meet Alice's younger brother Mike. The rest, as they say, was history. Pat and Mike were married on April 24, 1954 and Mom dedicated her life to creating the large family she always wanted. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always Mom's focus and source of joy - that is, when the Bombers and Jets weren't playing. She was delighted when she and Dad went to the Grey Cup in Toronto following their 50th wedding anniversary. Mom was devoted to her faith and was generous with her time and money to many Catholic causes. She was extremely proud to receive her 25-year pin from the Catholic Women's League. Mom's sense of humour carried her through life's trials, right up to the end. Viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017 in St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue at Rouge Road, followed by Mass of Christian Burial which will be Celebrated at 10:30 a.m., also in the Church, with Rev. Fr. Robert Polz, presiding. Interment will follow in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Thank you to the entire staff of Misericordia Place 2nd Floor and of the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for taking such good care of Mom in her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Names House of Peace, 211 Edmonton Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1R4 or to Winnipeg Harvest.
