Mr. M was one of my favorite people. I remember being in kindergarten and he would call us girls princess. He was such a sweet man. There was also another time where I found a loonie in the girls washroom and instead of keeping it I took it to Mr. M in the office. He asked me why didn't I keep it? I told him that its not my money. He smiled and put his arm around me and told me i did the right thing. He came to see me later in my class and told me that they found the owner, some little kindergarten kid lost her milk money. When I was in grade 5 we used to play baseball in the back field during gym class. Mr. M used to come watch us play. He called me slugger because I used to hit the ball so hard and far that all the boys in my class had to run to get my ball lol. I wish i would have known when his funeral was i would have attended. He was definitely a one of a kind man, and i will never forget him. I was at governor semple between 1985-1991. He retired just before I started grade 6. - Posted by: Audrey (Former student @ Governor Semple) on: Oct 08, 2020

I was saddened to read of the passing of your husband and father and gida. You won't know me, but Matt made a huge impression on me when he was my teacher at Donald School in Narol MB. He was not only a very good teacher, but a good friend as well. I have not met him for several decades now, but we used to run into each other the odd time after I left school and he moved over to what is now Seven Oaks School Division. I know he was an inspiration to many others of my classmates as well. He was routinely encouraging us youngsters to partake in sports and would come out to the baseball field, or the hockey rink regularly to sort of cheer us on, which he did by just being there. No other of our teachers were so astute and devoted to their students as Matt. And he made himself an integral part of our little community, and called on the homes of several of our parents, just to say hello and keep them up to date on the progress of his students. Please accept my sincere condolences at your loss. Regrettably I will not be able to attend the services as we are out of the country until the end of March., In my eyes, he was truly a great man. - Posted by: Bob Malazdrewich (Former Student) on: Feb 23, 2017

Sometimes there are stories from your childhood that you forget or always remember. Having him as our principal is a memory that stands out and will never be forgotten. He was truly an inspiration and a wonderful man. Big hugs to the family. - Posted by: Jody Zborowsky (former student) on: Feb 23, 2017
