LYNNE CAROL LANINGA Suddenly on Saturday, February 11, 2017, Lynne passed away at the age of 71. Reuniting with the love of her life, Nick, after four short months apart. Lynne will be forever remembered by her children Nikki (Dale), Shelly (Greg), Jackie (Wade), Lorraine and Kirby (Ang); brothers Wayne, Greg and Rob (Donna); sister-in-law Hannie; sister-in-law Tini; grandchildren Randy (Kacee), Katie (Tyler), Raymond, Natasha, Kelsey, Gillian, Justin, Holly, MacKenna, Alex, Quinn and Carter; great-grandchildren Chase, Anna, Lia, Wylie and Evyn; numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Nick; mother Doris; father Lawrence; and brother Gary. Lynne was born in Winnipeg. She married Nick at a young age and together they built a solid friendship spanning 53 years. Lynne began her career in retail grocery for 16 years then had the courage to own and operate a successful swimwear business for 25 years. Truly dedicated to her family, Lynne's door was always open. She fully welcomed each new family member and generously provided health, recipe and relationship advice. The glue that held the family together - she hosted Sunday suppers, celebrated our milestones and observed each holiday. Lynne didn't let an Easter egg hunt go by without a challenging riddle for each child. Family game nights started at an early age with Spoons or Pass the Ace, continuing this tradition through the generations with card games, Tile Rummy and Trivial Pursuit. Lynne took sheer pleasure in a win. Still, a good sport if she lost. At the pure amusement of the grandchildren, her dip in the pool was "required by contract" if the temperature hit plus 36. Pool parties at Oma and Opi's were a summer ritual. Lynne's competitive spirit showed early. In 2013 she was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame with the 1961 Glenlawn Lionettes team. She lived life with quiet strength and determination. A tireless advocate for Nick when his health started to fail. It meant the world for Lynne to receive the outpouring of support from family, friends and neighbours when Nick passed away. Many thanks go to the dedicated emergency personnel who tended to our family. A private celebration of Lynne's life will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. • I was deeply saddened by the death of your father and now your mother. I met your parents years ago when they visited my dad and mom Klaas & Jean in Lynden Washington U.S.A. 98264. My memories of your dad go back to Holland. I was born in 1945 in my grandparents home in Bedum and your dad was like an older brother to me , we attended the same school . We left Holland in 1952 and never saw my grandmother again Grandpa Laninga did come for a visit. Your dad Nick, uncles Hero, Jack & Wilco followed my father to North America. My parents did visit the families in Winnipeg and Chicago frequently however as the next generation we lost touch except with Leo & Carla Visser. If it works we would love to meet you someday. Our love and prayers to all of you. Our address is 101 Front Street Lynden Washington USA 98264 - Posted by: Nick Laninga (nephew) on: Mar 14, 2017

  • To the family of Lynne Everyone please accept my deepest sympathies. As I read Lynne's obituary many great thoughts and memories came to mind. Too many to be able to share here. One thing I can say now is Lynne had a great influence in my life. The obituary is so true for she was also a great supporter of everyone who was lucky to be a part of here life. Especially mine. I have such a great respect for her because of her support. She loved Nick and she sure loved her children. She was proud of all of you. Keep your memories and may she always stay strong in your hearts. Again I am so sorry for your loss. Judy Hillier - Posted by: Judy Hillier (Friend ) on: Mar 12, 2017

  • On behalf of all those at the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, I would like to extend our sincere sympathies to Lynn's family in this very difficult time. I remember many members of her family in attendance at our induction dinner in 2013 where her Glenlawn Lions team was honoured and how proud she was that evening to share the honour with all of them. We hope that the memories you have of her will somewhat comfort you through your time of sorrow. . - Posted by: Ross Wedlake (Chair, Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame) on: Mar 11, 2017
