Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER LLOYD (BUD) WISHART Bud (Walter Lloyd) Wishart passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Portage Hospital. Born on April 24, 1930 to Thomas and Isabella (Thomson) Wishart, he grew up on the family farm north of Portage. He was the youngest of six children (Jim, Doris, Billy, Murray, Laura, Bud) He received his education at Central School and Portage Collegiate. In High School he was a defensive lineman in football and was also an active member of his local 4-H club. Bud worked on the dredge at the Atikokan iron mine before returning home to work on the family farm along side his brother, Jim. During the winters, he and longtime friend, Ted Cook, worked in the oil fields at Virden, Manitoba. In 1957 Bud married Gladys Bruce. Together they lived on and continued to farm the home farm started by his grandfather. Bud was an avid curler who enjoyed many bonspiels throughout the years. As a young man he enjoyed hunting and achieved the level of Silver Marksman. He also served as a director on the Portage Fair Board for many years. Bud loved fishing and had a knack for catching more fish than anyone else in the boat. He was also an avid Ham Radio Operator. Together he and Dave Elbert studied and passed their Amateur Radio Exams, allowing them to talk to people all over the world, including the International Space Station. Left to mourn his loss are his wife Gladys; daughter Kelly; son-in-law Jim and granddaughter Leah as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome to attend the graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Prospect Cemetery, Road 72 North, (west of Highway 240 North) in the R. M. of Portage la Prairie. A memorial tea will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Unit 3 2430 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, MB. R7B 0M5 or a charity of your choice.
