JEAN GRESCOE February 2, 1921 - January 18, 2017 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our Baba, Jean Grescoe, at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, on January 18, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Jean was predeceased by her parents, first husband, Walter Baluk, second husband, Frank Grescoe, and daughter, Irene Yosyk (Baluk). She leaves to cherish her loving memory son James (Diane) Baluk, grandsons Michael (Anna) Yosyk, Steven (Lisa) Yosyk and Matthew (Shauna) Baluk, great-grandchildren Danika, Evan and Taylor, as well as her extended family and friends. Jean was born February 2, 1921 in Poplarfield, Manitoba and was one of 12 siblings. She left the family farm at a young age and moved to Winnipeg, where she pursued her long career as a hairdresser. After working in salons, Jean ventured out on her own and established Jean's Hairdressing out of her home, where she worked until she retired in her early 70s. She loved her career and cared dearly for her customers, who often became friends. Jean was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother and Baba and will always be remembered for her enduring commitment to her family. There were many times when she opened the doors of her home for family members and friends in need and provided tremendous support. Jean will also be remembered for her independence. She amazingly drove until she was 92, and lived on her own until moving to Middlechurch Home in 2016. The pleasures of life enjoyed by Jean were her family, especially her great-grandchildren, her dogs, and cooking and baking. She also loved spending her summers outdoors gardening, berry picking and taking road trips with her camper van. Jean appreciated the compassionate care from the staffs of Middlechurch Home, Grace Hospital and home care. Jean and her family would like to extend a special thank you to Cyril and Jessie Carrier for their friendship and "above and beyond" help over the past few years. In accordance with her wishes, Jean was cremated and a private celebration of her life will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society in Jean's honour.
