SONIA (SUNNY) SCHACHTER
Date of Passing: Feb 05, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySONIA (SUNNY) SCHACHTER Surrounded by family, on February 5, 2017, Sonia (Sunny) Schachter passed away peacefully and with dignity. Sunny was predeceased by her husband Joe, parents Harry and Miriam Rissin, and her brother Joe Rissin. She is survived by her children Joyce (Ron), Diane (David), Harley (Roxana), and Rheesa (Paul), 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Sunny was a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend who lived and loved unconditionally. She was a stay at home mom and was always available to her children and grandchildren no matter what was needed or asked of her. As her family grew, Sunny welcomed each and every one of her children's and her grandchildren's partners with loving and open arms. Family was so important to her. Sunny was a remarkable person. She never raised her voice but got her voice heard. She soldiered on when faced with health issues and never gave up. Two years ago, at the age of 92, she decided assisted living was not for her and moved out on her own. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were so privileged to have Mom and Baba Sunny in their lives for so long. Her love, generosity and spirit live on in them. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Home Instead for the incredible treatment, compassion and affection shown to Sunny, as well as the staff at the St. Boniface Dialysis Unit and Ward E5. Services were held at Congregation Shaarey Zedek on February 7. Pallbearers were her grandchildren Ben, Bryan, Matt, Tovah, Curtis, and family friend Jonathan. Should you wish, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
