  • To Nicky, Andy, Johnny, Marusa and all who loved Anna Labay, We are sorry to hear of your mother, Aunty Anne's, passing. Although never close geographically, being from British Columbia, we definitely remember the times when West met up with East and Anna was there. Nick Kotyk was her brother and his wife Betty, still living, and Lorna, Larry, Joan and Frank (pre-deceased), Nick's children, remember Anne. We especially remember visiting the farm in Birtle; memories which are as clear to us now as when we made them some 55+ years ago. Auntie Anne was always busy in the garden and the kitchen and with the animals. She was an amazing woman who always had wonderful food to share with all who visited (that woman could cook!). She was a woman of hospitality who lived life to the fullest and laughed easily...or so we remember. We kids remember making trails of dirt in the huge puddle in the back yard and we loved walking around the farm and seeing the animals. You guys were so lucky to grow up with everything fresh and healthy, with so much love, and also the hard work (which was probably no fun at the time), but all this has molded you into the people you are today. We remember also when she came out west for her brother Nick's funeral and also another time on a road trip to Trail and Castlegar, in a camper of all things. Another time we drove day and night to be there for her mom's funeral and years later she took us in once again when we came out for the Folk Festival, over 15 years ago...alas the last time we saw her. Betty especially remembers how she loved to watch her and her husband, John, dance. Auntie Anne was such a hard working and welcoming woman and we will forever cherish our memories of her. Would that we had known her better and had more memories to share, but all we know is that she was well loved and supported and cared for by you, her children, until the day she left this earth. Peace be with you all and know that you do not grieve alone. With much love from BC: Betty, Lorna, Larry and Joan - Posted by: Betty, Lorna, Larry and Joan (Sister-in-law, niece, nephew and neice) on: Feb 26, 2017
