MARY BODIE Peacefully in her 99th year, with family at her side and holding her hand, our mom Mary Bodie (Bazyk) passed away on February 23, 2017 and she is now with family members that she missed so much. Mom is survived by her daughter Sharron (Warren) Marsh, son Wayne (Madeline) Bodie, grandchildren Kevin (Kristen) Marsh, and Krista (Dean) Bruce, great-grandchildren Andrew and Kayla Marsh, Adelia and Ila Bruce, Alyshia, Josh, Mathias, Tyson, and Thor Tondevold, sisters Helen (Henry) Hiebert and Pauline Skinner, also Dad's family, sisters-in-law Elizabeth Beres, Muriel Bodie, and Heddy Bodie, brothers-in-law Joe and Alex Bodie, and Bud Fleming, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Mike in 1979, mom and dad Nettie and Harry Bazyk, brother John, and sisters Ann (John) Kropelnicki and Jean Bazyk. Mom was born in Pleasant Home, MB on December 23, 1918. She grew up on the farm before locating to the big city of Winnipeg to get a job. It was there that she met her husband Mike and they were married in 1942. Mom worked hard all her life. Her and our dad built their dream home on five acres of land in St. Vital. Above all she loved to garden. Her yard was always blooming with colourful flowers, and vegetables were abundant to share. She loved to bake her delicious cinnamon buns and chocolate cake. Every Sunday was dinner at Mom and Dad's. She enjoyed spending time with her mom and sisters talking on the phone and visiting. When her grandchildren were born she enjoyed their company and frequent visits. After her husband passed away she stayed on the acreage learning to operate the riding lawnmower and getting her drivers license (an accomplishment she was very proud of). In her later years she moved in with her sister. At the age of 86 she went to live at the Maples Personal Care Home. We cannot say enough about the wonderful care she received from the kind staff for the last years of her life. She will be greatly missed for her fiery spirit and witty humour. A "Celebration of Life" will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 2 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street across from Kildonan Park. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in the spring when the flowers are blooming. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society (she loved her cats), or a charity of your choice. seasonsfunerals.ca

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our condolences go out to the Bodie and Marsh families at this difficult time. There is a void and sadness when a loved one passes away and no matter how long they've lived, they leave indelible memories of love in our hearts. Sharron & Wayne we did not see your Mother often but are remembering her as a person with a good sense of humor and a sharp wit. Thinking of you..Grace & Jack Irwin (breakfast club). - Posted by: Grace & Jack Irwin (friends) on: Mar 01, 2017

  • As a teenager, I spent many happy times at the Bodie residence with my friend Wayne. While there are many fond memories, my favourite one is how on late Saturday nights, we would end up at her house where she would brew up a Silex pot of tea and sit with us to make sure we were okay to make it home. Seems like only yesterday. A great, kind hearted woman that I had the privilege of knowing as I was growing up... - Posted by: Eugene Fedyniak (Wayne's friend) on: Feb 28, 2017
