HERBERT ERNEST GOEBEL May 1, 1937 - February 27, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Herb Goebel. "Say not in grief he is no more, but live in thankfulness that he was." On May 1, 1937, Herb was born in Neudorf, Saskatchewan. He worked in Balcarres, Saskatchewan and Wawanesa, Manitoba before settling in Winnipeg in 1965. He worked at Versatile for 32 years, serving as Union President and Secretary for many years. He retired in January 1998 and joined the Versatile Seniors Association where, for many years, served on the executive committee. Herb was well-respected by all who knew him and made friends wherever he went.Herb's love of travel found him touring throughout North America. One of his favorite places was the Grand Ole Opry. He loved to bowl at the Church on Friday afternoons, watching sports, going out for dinner and spending weekends with his son John. Herb was an avid sports enthusiast, being a fastball umpire for ten years and going to the Goldeyes baseball and Winnipeg Jets hockey games. Remaining to cherish Herb's memory are his son, John (St. Amant Centre); brother Don; sisters Margaret (Donald), Eunice, Thelma and Susan (Dave) and many nieces and nephews. Also, brothers and sisters-in-law and special friend Mary Mitchell. He was predeceased by his loving wife Dianne; father Jacob; mother Ottilia; sisters Alice and Jean as well as brothers Clarence and Robert. Herb will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all those who knew him. The family would like to express their appreciation to the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre, 3E Palliative Care Ward for the kindness and care that Herb received during his brief time there. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • My condolences to the immediate family of Herb. My late husband Harvey was a cousin to Herb. Faithfully every year Herb would visit us in Calgary, always on his way to visit with other family and friends. He was so devoted to keeping in touch by his visits and Christmas card greetings. He leaves wonderful memories for all that had the pleasure of knowing him. Norma Goebel - Posted by: Norma Goebel (Cousin - through marriage) on: Mar 20, 2017

  • My condolences to Herb's family. Herb will be sadly missed by our family as well; for he was a kind, thoughtful, caring person, who knew how to bring joy and comfort into every situation. Herb was a very special person in my Mother's life. He brought her much joy, and offed so much support, when she was going through trying times. They shared a joy of travel, as well as partaking in the simpler things in life. It would stir my heart, when I'd sometimes spot them walking hand-in-hand in the mall. Sometimes they'd be in serious conversation you wouldn't want to disturb; other times they'd just be smiling or laughing. After she got to know this special man, there was not a day in her life that wasn't made brighter by a phone call from Herb; or difficult time made easier if she knew he was going to be there to help her through it. Herb was a kind and spiritual man, whom we know has moved to on to a good reward; but it sure would have been nice to keep him here with us a little longer. May he rest in peace, an may his family find comfort in the knowledge of knowing his was a life fully, and well-lived. - Posted by: Maralaina Holliday (friend) on: Mar 04, 2017

  • I am so very thankful for the time we had together in September and chatting with you via "FaceTime" at New Years. A wonderful, caring Uncle. You will be missed Uncle Herb. You've earned your wings, fly free and rest easy! ❤️ - Posted by: Charlotte Sluchenski (Niece ) on: Mar 02, 2017

  • Having known Herb and his family through his son at St. Amant I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Herb worked with my husband Ed at Versatile for many years . He was a good friend. He was kind and thoughtful also coming to visit Ed when he was in palliative care . I am so pleased to have visited with him a couple of weeks ago in River View . We had a lovely visit with son John being there along with sister Thelma and John's care giver Heather. My condolences to Herb's family. Cherish the memories and continue to keep His son John in your hearts. Sincerely , Inga Zahodnik and family - Posted by: Inga Zahodnik (Friend) on: Mar 01, 2017
