DOROTHY JANET HUNT February 8, 1942 - February 25, 2017 Despite professional, compassionate care by surgeons, doctors and staff of the BC Cancer Agency throughout the last 40 months, Dorothy died peacefully at home on February 25, 2017 comforted by immediate family members. She had immensely enjoyed her 75th birthday celebrations earlier this month when most of her grandkids, kids and extended family had crowded around her bed to reminisce, cry a little and laugh a lot about our lives together and allowing her to express her hopes and aspirations to each for their future. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg on February 8, 1942, only child of Isabel (Paterson) and Bertie Hunt, and is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dale, of nearly 54 years; children, Jeff (Lynn), Cindy (Ken) and Pam (Dan) and their children, Emily, Hannah, Holly, Tabitha, Cooper and Mia. With both Dorothy and Dale being a 'Hunt', having the same initials, with fathers in the same business, both raised in west-end Winnipeg and schooled at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate, it was only natural that they have been inseparable since the age of 14, and married when 21. They spent their first 20 years in East Kildonan, moved east in 1983 and spent the best years of their lives in Montreal, and since 1997, have used Delta, BC as a base for work and pre-retirement activity. Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed dancing, bridge and cribbage, baking for family, friends and special occasions, summers at favorite locations across Canada, golf and curling, cruising (particularly rivers) in her later years, knitting, crossword puzzles, all serving her very creative nature. But far and away her primary passion has been admiring the grandchildren's development and growth, who, to a child, have reciprocated by eagerly involving 'Gma' in all aspects of their busy lives. It has been Dorothy's long-time wish to be cremated and celebrated with a private Service in Montreal at a later date. Further, the couple had planned to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday with a cross-Canada road-trip to some of their favorite locations throughout the year, which Dale has pledged to complete. Finally, and without presumption, aware that some of our friends and acquaintances will be inclined to recognize her passing with flowers, the family respectfully requests that in lieu of that custom, a donation be made in her honour to Ovarian Cancer Research at the BC Cancer Foundation to help stop this dreadful disease. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • We are very sorry for your loss Dale, Jeff, Cindy and Pam. Judy and I still have fond memories of getting together at your home on McLeod and Dorothy's gracious and friendly hospitality towards us. She had the most winningest smile. Your family (and dog) were a model for us and there have been many times and occasions when we recall the curling spiels and after parties. Dale, you have no idea how often I have sung your praises and related our canoe trip and fishing experiences. You introduced me to canoeing and Nopiming Park and subsequently I have been on countless trips there with my brother, my son and daughter and more recently our grandsons. Thank you! Our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: John and Judy Rempel (friends from the past) on: Mar 13, 2017
