HARVEY ELDON PETER OSTASH June 24, 1938-February 27, 2017 Peacefully, February 27, 2017, Harve passed away at home in the arms of his loving wife Betty, after a long battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Betty, son Brad (Jane), daughter Laurie (Mark) and son Jeff, grandchildren Cara, Eric (Maria), Kelly, Dan, Alex , great-grandson Ryder, his sister Mary Ann Bicknell and several in-laws, nieces and nephews. Harve was born in Winnipeg to Peter and Anna Ostash. When he turned 18, he joined the RCMP. After three years he left the RCMP and returned to Winnipeg where he joined the Winnipeg Police Department and served for almost 30 years with great pride. He developed many friendships and was a mentor to several young constables, one of them being his wife Betty. Harve was an avid hockey fan. He coached Winnipeg minor hockey leagues for many years. When he retired from the Department, he went to work as Director of Security for the Manitoba Horseracing Commission where he touched many more lives with his sense of ethics, humor and quick wit. Upon leaving the MHRC Harve and Betty moved to Pinawa to enjoy retirement. Summers were spent fishing, and in particular golfing-Harve's first love. Winters were spent in Mesa, Arizona where he could continue practicing for the Senior Tour. He was truly one of a kind. Cremation has taken place and interment will be at Brookdale Cemetery in Holland, Manitoba at 1:30 p.m. on March 11. A celebration of life will be held May 6, 2017 at the Anola Community Centre on Hwy. 15 in Anola from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. All are welcome. It was beautiful as long as it lasted The journey of my life. I have no regrets whatsoever Save the pain I'll leave behind. Those dear hearts who love and care... And the strings pulling at the heart and soul... The strong arms that held me up When my own strength let me down. At every turning of my life I came across good friends, Friends who stood by me, Even when the time raced me by. Farewell, farewell, my friends I smile and bid you goodbye. No, shed no tears for I need them not All I need is your smile. If you feel sad do think of me For that's what I'll like when you live in the hearts Of those you love, remember then You never die. 204-782-3541www.kilcollinscremationservice.com

  • Harve and I were the platoon sergeants on an A side shift in Dist 5 in 1986-87..I never had more fun in my 33 years on the job. He was truly a hilarious human being and a savvy cop-steady as a rock in our few serious encounters and a pillar of support and mentorship to a lot of the young constables on our shift. I doubt they make cops like this any more. Rest in peace , old friend.. - Posted by: Jack Tinsley (Friend & co-worker) on: Mar 10, 2017

  • I remember the first time I met Harv was at our neighbour's and good friends of yours, Al and Colleen's home. I enjoyed time with you both off and on over the years but remember most fondly the afternoon with you in Mesa. Harv was a wonderful guy who will certainly be missed. Our hearts go out to you, Betty, and we only hope the wonderful memories you have will help you in the coming days ahead. Judy and Will - Posted by: Judy Hall (Friend) on: Mar 06, 2017
