WILLIAM BONAR December 18, 1924 - February 28, 2017 After a brief battle with cancer, Bill passed away peacefully at Ste. Anne Hospital with his loving family by his side at the age of 92. Bill is survived by his daughter, Maureen (John) Heide; son Michael (Angie); and grand-children, Maegwin and Devin. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Gladys; parents Elizabeth and John; brothers Robert and James; and sister Jean. Bill was born in Stranolar, Ireland. In 1948, he set sail for Canada, eventually settling in Winnipeg. In 1951, Bill joined the Winnipeg Fire Department and his career spanned 34 years when he finally retired as a Captain. In 1990, Bill moved to Paradise Village in Ste. Anne, Man., and he was fortunate to share many happy years with the residents there. In the winter time, he had many happy times with residents of North Val Vista in Mesa, Arizona. Bill had a passion for square-dancing and old-time dancing and attended as many dances as he could. Travelling and going to festivals throughout the Province took up much of his summers, with his favourite festival being the Morden Corn & Apple fest. He also loved camping, nature, watching curling and CFL football, and following politics and current affairs. He was an avid gardener and did a lot harvesting and canning from his garden. He was a gentle and easy going soul who loved spending time with family and friends, and there was nothing he liked better than a interesting conversation with a good or a new friend. He will be dearly missed and remembered with great fondness. A celebration of Bill's life will take place on Friday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, #1 Hwy. East at Navin Rd. Cremation has taken place and a interment will take place at a later date in Morden Cemetery. Flowers are graciously declined. Donations may be made in memory of Bill to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of one's choice. Thanks to Dr. Paul DeMoissac and all the nurses and staff at Ste. Anne Hospital for their care and support. I would trade all of my tomorrows for just one more day with you. You are in our hearts forever. Sleep in peace Your loving family. Our sincere condolences to Bill's family from Ila and Brian Cooper of Paradise Village. Bill was such an easy-going and patient gentleman who entertained us many times with sparkling conversation and sharp wit...very engaging and refreshing indeed. It was always fun to watch Bill and his beautiful dance partner glide effortlessly around the dance floor to the delight of the many onlookers and admirers. Thank you dearest Bill for being a most valued part of our retirement life in Paradise Village. Your passing reminds us just how fragile our lives can be. - Posted by: Ila and Brian Cooper (Friends in Paradise Village) on: Mar 04, 2017
