MORTON (MORT) JAMES ALEXANDER WILSON May 23, 1914 - February 03, 2017 ( 102 years) Uncle Mort was born and raised in Minnedosa, MB. with his four siblings, Jean, Jack, Harold and Maxine; by his parents, Stanley and Lillian Wilson (nee Cochrane). All predeceased. The family moved to the Milton, On. area where he completed high school. As a young man he became as newspaper reporter for several well known papers in the Kitchener, Milton, Hamilton and Toronto area, only to return to Winnipeg and work at the Winnipeg Free Press. He later joined the Federal Civil Service where he was appointed the Regional Public Relations Officer and Chief Information Officer for various Federal Departments in Winnipeg and Ottawa. He retired in 1977 and enjoyed a long retirement. Although he was never married, he will be missed greatly by all his nieces and nephews that are scattered throughout North America and Australia. Uncle Mort was the last of a generation where manners and politeness counted. Special Thanks to the Maples Personal Care Home and in particular the Staff of 2E, who provided excellent care for over three years. Also, a Very Special Thank You, to a close friend, Mr. Robert Barry and his family. As per Uncle Mort's wishes, there was no Formal Service. A Celebration of his life will be at a later date. " I have decided to make an ash of myself." Cremation has already taken place. Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so to their favorite charity.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Very fond memories of a very caring man. Even though Uncle Mort lived a relatively simple life he always had an air of adventure about him. At almost 103 years old he is an inspiration to us all to never give up. In the Wilson tradition he had a real passion for the game of golf. The last my brother Dave and I visited with him, July 2016, the time was spent watching that weekends tour stop on the television. - Posted by: Dean Wilson (Nephew) on: Mar 12, 2017
