Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDENA IRENE NOAKES (nee BURTON) Peacefully, on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Deer Lodge Centre, Dena Noakes passed away at the age of 85. She is survived by her daughter Marion Ross, son Don Noakes, daughter-in-law Jane Wyatt, grandsons Matthew Noakes and Daniel Ross, granddaughter Chelsea Ross (Justin Dupuis), and great-granddaughter Genevieve Dupuis. Dena was predeceased by her husband Bill Noakes, brothers Tom and Homer Burton, and son-in-law Bob Ross. Dena was the youngest of three, born on April 12, 1931, in Miniota, Manitoba. She grew up in Winnipeg and made lifelong friends while attending St. James Collegiate. Dena graduated from the Children's Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. During her 40-year nursing career at the Children's Hospital, she was most known for her time spent as evening supervisor. After graduating from nursing, Dena married her high school sweetheart, Bill in 1954. Together, they saw their family grow to include their daughter Marion and son Don. They had many adventures as a family camping in Manitoba and Ontario. Dena treasured her time at the cottage, especially picking blueberries at Booster Lake and cross-country skiing in Badger, Manitoba. She was passionate about fishing and always made sure to enjoy the day's catch. Dena balanced the demands of family and career, and remained a hardworking and dedicated caregiver. Prior to starting her evening shift as a nurse, Dena cared for aging parents, chauffeured grandchildren, and was ever willing to lend a hand to a friend. This energy and commitment carried on into her retirement. During her senior years, she was actively involved in the St. James Seniors Centre and was proud to be a part of "Company of Friends". We all miss her care packages - especially the butter tarts and bran muffins - and still enjoy her lasagna recipe today. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Tuxedo Villa and Deer Lodge Centre who cared for Dena in her later years. A special thank you also to her physiotherapist Cindy, foot care provider Pierrette, and companion Samantha; each of whom brightened Dena's day and provided essential care. A private service will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens on April 1, 2017. In lieu of flowers, we know Dena would appreciate any donations made to the Children's Hospital Foundation (goodbear.mb.ca or 204-953-5437). Dear Marion... I am so sorry to hear of your dear mom's passing. I don't think I realized that your mom was also a nurse. I think of you often and wonder how you are doing. Hopefully our paths will cross soon. Thinking of you and your family... - Posted by: Verna Adolf (Colleague and friend) on: Mar 11, 2017
