GUDBJORG HALLDORA (DOROTHY) JOHNSON November 17, 1928 - March 9, 2017 Surrounded by her family, it is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother and Amma, Dorothy Johnson, at the age of 88 years. Left to cherish her memory is her loving family: children, Don (Corinne) Johnson, Dick (Maureen) Johnson, Bob (Donna) Johnson, Sigrid (Ryan) Palsson, and Bruce Johnson; grandchildren, Derek (Krista), Jenny (Raymond), Mitch (Amanda), Kendra (Craig), Corey (Angie), Chad (Nikki), Michael (Tanya), Kenny (Kyla), Kaylee (Gerald), and 26 great-grandchildren; sister Sella; sisters-in-law Begga and Darlene (Elert); brothers-in-law Herb, Walter and Danny, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Siggi; her parents Sturlauger and Gudleif; sister Kristine; brothers, Johnny, Kris and Laugi; sisters-in-law Beatrice, Asa and Gunna; and brothers-in-law Don, Hugh and Gisli. Mom was born in Finns. She took her schooling in Riverton. She developed a great interest for music at a very young age listening to her older brothers playing their violins, and soon after joining them playing the piano. All the siblings became known as "The Musical Mates" and were later joined by Haraldur Bjornson. They played together for many years entertaining all through the Interlake. Mom instilled the love of music into all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members. After leaving school, she worked as a waitress at the Riverton Restaurant and at John's Lunch. She also worked at a chocolate factory in Winnipeg and the Riverton Bakery. In 1948, she married the love of her life Siggi. He encouraged and supported her music until he passed in August of 1980. She played the piano right up to her 88th birthday still playing duets with her sister Sella. Her music will live in our hearts forever. Family and friends were very important to her. Mom's door was always open and the coffee pot was always on. She was the most kind, generous and loving person you could ask for. We will hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain, to walk with us throughout our lives until we meet again. You will be forever loved and deeply missed. GODA NOTT ELSKU MAMA, AMMA OG LANG AMMA A memorial service will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Riverton Recreation Centre Hall with a private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverton Community Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
