Born: Dec 29, 1989
Date of Passing: Mar 11, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMATTHEW WAYNE LACKO December 29, 1989 - March 11, 2017 It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son and brother, Matthew Wayne Lacko on Saturday March 11, 2017 at the age of 27 years. He will be sadly missed by his mother and father Ramona and Wayne Lacko, brothers Nicholas (Ainsley) and Christian (Nicole), grandmothers Lorraine Roth and Pearl Lacko, and a host of many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Matthew grew up in Winnipeg in a loving family with many friends. From an early age, making connections and bonding with people came easy to Matt. His sense of humour was legendary. He genuinely had a natural ability and desire for making any excuse to cause people to laugh. He enjoyed being the centre of attention but was sensitive to those who were shy or seen as outcasts. Matthew spent the last few years living in Edmonton, AB. He was working as an electrician apprentice at Kel's Electrical. He was hardworking, well liked, and took pride in his work. Matt was a naturally gifted athlete who excelled in all sports. He enjoyed his hockey and currently played for two teams. He will be greatly missed by his Snake Arm teammates. Matthew was always up for an adventure. Among them: skydiving, long boarding, fishing, golfing, and snowboarding. Family gatherings spent at Crow Lake will be fondly remembered. Since his late teens, Matthew struggled with mental illness, but through it all and till the end, Matthew knew he was loved and we knew he loved us. He had an open mind, a giving heart and a consideration for others. Wayne and Ramona, Nicholas and Christian express their heartfelt gratitude to the many that reached out to support Matthew over the years, both here in Winnipeg and especially the family in Edmonton. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gianna Beretta Molla Roman Catholic Church, 15 Columbia Drive, Winnipeg, MB. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Matthew's name to Manitoba Schizophrenia Society. Matthew, may you now find true peace and that it will set you free.

He was a great guy, I didn't know him well, I only recently found out of his passing. I remember him going out of his way to help me complete some assignments so I could also attend a movie field trip that I wouldn't have been able to go on as I was behind in school work. He didn't hesitate for a moment to help when he found out. Sorrowful when I heard this, he will be missed. - Posted by: Anon (Classmate) on: Dec 14, 2019

So sorry and sad to hear of Matt's passing. Matt was a great friend to my brother Kyle and was a joy to have over at our house regularly. Matt was kind to all and had a great sense of humour. Thanks for making great memories with the 1990's kids who grew up in Whyte Ridge. Rest in Peace - Posted by: Kendra Turl (Friend ) on: Mar 21, 2017

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend Matt's funeral today. However on behalf of the entire Snakearm hockey team, we would like to offer our greatest sympathies to the entire Lacko family on their loss. For our team, we see each other as family. And on March 11th we all lost a brother that day. Matt was a leader on and off the ice for our team, helping us all improve when necessary and leading us when needed. Matt was always able to keep us focused when we needed to win, and cheer us up with his great sense of humor when we were losing. He will be missed greatly by our entire team, and each night we play in his honor knowing he is watching over us and cheering us on. Rest in Peace Matt. You will always be missed and loved by, Jordan G, Jeff S, James W, Jeff V, Eric G, Hans F, Justin S, Marty M, David D, Francis E, Ryan P, Wayne R, Stuart C, David F, Mike L, and Cody P. - Posted by: Jordan Goudie (Friend/ Teammate) on: Mar 21, 2017

Christian, I was very sad to hear of the news of the passing of Matt and haven't stopped thinking of your family since. Your family and you will always have a special place in my life and heart. Some of my best days teaching were meeting and laughing with the Lacko boys at HGI. Although I never had the opportunity to teach Matt, he was and forever will be a great person. My husband Simon has never forgotten you boys either and we send our sincere condolences. - Posted by: Caterina Aiello (Ms. A) (teacher at Matt's middle school) on: Mar 18, 2017
