JOHN HENRY PERKIN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Henry Perkin on February 20, 2017, at the age of 90 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Audrey, his daughters Karen (Sheldon) and Alison (Ken), his grandchildren Graham John (Meg), Kristin (Dan), James (Jenn), and Sarah (Jesse), and his great-grandsons Angus John and Malcolm. John was first and foremost a family man. He was devoted to his wife of 66 years, Audrey, the love of his life. Each summer he spent countless hours tending to his flower garden, creating a beautiful backyard for "my Audrey." Together, they worked to create another lovely yard at their cottage, where the saplings they once planted are now a grove of mature trees. A Winnipeg Transit bus driver for 33 years, John's strong work ethic and selflessness ensured that his family was well provided for. He was a wonderful Dad, encouraging and supportive. John was an actively-involved Grandpa - generous, fun-loving, and so very proud of his grandchildren's achievements and of the caring adults they have become. He had a special place in his heart for his two little great-grandsons, delighting in every visit and FaceTime chat. John enjoyed keeping up with current events and issues, relishing the opportunity to discuss them with his children and grandchildren. He loved family dinners and celebrations - the food, the laughter, the togetherness. John has been an inspiration to us all, facing life's challenges with courage, resilience, and a positive outlook. We will miss him dearly. For their care and kindness, we thank Dr. J. Bergen, Dr. K. Lage, Ilona, Tracey, and Debbie; the staff of N1 South Concordia Hospital; and John's Home Care team. In keeping with John's wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
