Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE (KAY) ORTLIEB (nee ANDERSON) On Friday, March 10, 2017, Catherine Ortlieb passed away at the Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg, with her family by her side, at the age of 94 years. Kay was born on October 14, 1922 at the Kenora General Hospital to Janet Anderson (nee Fisher) and David Anderson. Surviving her are her immediate family, son Ron and Sandy Ortlieb (nee Leduc); daughters, Jocelyn (Jeff) Degagne and Jacqueline Ortlieb (nee Pearson); grandchildren, Benji (Lindsay) Ortlieb, Jeremy (K.C.) Ortlieb, Kaitlin (Mark) Hummelt, Kyle Degagne and Jacob Degagne; great-grandchildren, Elliott, Josie, Olivia and Madalyn Ortlieb; as well as numerous nieces and nephews she held dear to her heart. She was predeceased by her parents; son Warren William Ortlieb; grandson Justin Ortlieb and all of her brothers and sisters. Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter and friend, Mom wore many hats. She was raised in Keewatin, Ontario where she attended elementary school. She later traveled to Kenora, Ontario to attend high school. Mom worked for various companies in clerical positions in various cities, her favorite being Fort William, where she and her sisters enjoyed visiting with her brother Dave. Keeping strong family ties throughout her lifetime, Mom raised us to understand the importance of family and staying close. Kay enlisted in the Air Force working as a payroll clerk throughout Canada. She travelled the world (Paris, France and India being her most memorable) but her heart was always in Keewatin which led her back home. Married in 1954, she became a mother to three children, Ron, Jocy and Warren (Oogy). Mom was an amazing mother and homemaker, always there to send us off to school, ensuring we got a healthy lunch and being there when we ran home. She gave us a wonderful childhood to remember and her cinnamon buns were the best in the world. Mom spent many hours with all her grandchildren, at camp, babysitting after school and offering her time and love whenever she was needed. Mom enjoyed camp life with Warren and Jackie and became the ultimate angler and weasel hunter. She paddled all the grandchildren around the lagoon in her pontoon boat built by her son just for her, sharing her knowledge of all swamp creatures. In 2009, Mom took on a new adventure and moved to Winnipeg, where she could still enjoy her independence but also receive assistance if she needed it. In compliance with Mom's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. We only ask you to think of her fondly, smile and enjoy your memories. The family would like to thank all the people who helped Mom remain healthy and cared for so she could enjoy her life as long as possible in the Lindenwood Manor, the Rosewood and the Golden West Lodge in Winnipeg.
