ISABEL M. SOMERVILLE With heavy hearts the family of Isabel May Somerville (nee Hamilton) announce that she has peacefully passed away on March 16, 2017 in Victoria, BC. Isabel was predeceased by her husband Bill (Slim) in September of 2013 and is survived by her daughter Cathi, son Jim (Allison), granddaughter Jolene (Marshall) and great-granddaughters Kendell, Sydney and Jordan. Isabel was born in Birtle, Manitoba to John and Helen Hamilton on October 22, 1924 and grew up in Solsgirth, Manitoba. During the Second World War she joined the R.C.A.F. as a W.D. and was stationed in Scoudouc, New Brunswick. After the war she moved to Toronto where she met Bill and they were married. They moved to Winnipeg in 1949 and lived there until 1973 when they moved to Duncan, BC. They were so fortunate to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary there in January of 2013 prior to Bill's passing. Isabel moved to a wonderful care home in Brentwood Bay in June of 2015 and happily lived there until she suffered a severe stroke in July of 2016. She then moved to Glengarry Hospital in Fairfield where she lived out the remainder of her days. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at both Brentwood House and at Glengarry Hospital for taking such amazing care of Mom, and giving her a quality of life that was above and beyond what one could hope and we are so very grateful to them. A service will be held in the spring (to be announced). Flowers are gratefully declined, instead, please give to the charity of your choice. Till we meet again Mom...

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • So very sorry about your beautiful mom. I remember spending so much time at 117 Havelock Ave in Winnipeg, I remember your mom's homemade pickles, many many lunchtime sandwiches, and fun. I bet there is a groove in the sidewalk between our houses from us running back and forth! I remember how fond my mom was of yours, and the wonderful visit my mom told me about, with your folks in BC. The Srigley sisters send their condolences to you Cathi, Jim, and family. - Posted by: Cathy (Srigley) Lindgren (Cathi's friend and former neighbour) on: Mar 27, 2017
