Born: Jun 01, 1972
Date of Passing: Mar 21, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAREN KOCHAN (nee BUETTNER) 1972 - 2017 It is with great sadness that the family announces that Karen Kochan passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, with her family at her side, after the most courageous battle with cancer. Remaining to cherish her memory and honour her life are her husband, Paul, her son, Max, her parents, Ed and Therese Buettner, her sister, Cheryl (Darryl) Ferguson, her brother, Eric Buettner (Kirsten LeBoutillier), her parents-in-law, Jerry and Gail Kochan, her sisters-in-law, Cherie (Marcel) Michaud and Krista (Shane) Mailey, and her nieces and nephews, Marcus, Meghan, Malissa, Jordyn, Sam and Nate. Karen was born in Humboldt, SK on June 1, 1972. When she was two years old, the family moved to Winnipeg. Karen was a brilliant student, earning a B. Comm (Honours) degree at the University of Manitoba. Through her work as a Wealth Advisor and Portfolio Manager with the Henderson Kochan Wealth Advisory Group through BMO (formerly Nesbitt Burns), she positively impacted so many lives. Karen married the love of her life, Paul, in 2001, and their beloved son, Max was born in 2005. So began the most fulfilling period of Karen's life. Her love for Paul and Max was incredibly deep, and she found true joy in watching Max grow up and in sharing so many laughs and adventures with them both. Her most cherished times were spent at their cottage at Ingolf, and during their many family vacations, particularly to her favourite destination, Maui. During Karen's nine-month battle with adrenal cancer, she inspired many with her strength and courage. Her amazingly positive outlook on life truly enriched the lives of those around her, despite her suffering. Her words and actions conveyed her philosophy that each day is a gift that we need to learn to appreciate. Karen also believed that we are given a miracle every day, and would often tell people what the "miracle of her day" was. She was an inspiration to many, and she cherished the love and support of each member of her family and each one of her friends. Karen's family would like to extend gratitude to all the nurses and doctors with CancerCare and St. Boniface Hospital for all their care and support through Karen's courageous battle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in accordance with Karen's wishes to the Karen Kochan Scholarship Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350 One Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3. Telephone: 204-944-9474. www.wpgfdn.org. The scholarship will be used in years to come to help hard-working young women achieve their goals. A service in honour of Karen's life will be held at St. George's Anglican Church, 168 Wilton St., Winnipeg, on Monday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. Karen, you have been a gift to all and your life has enriched each one of us. You will be missed every day - we love you forever.

Having lost our oldest daughter ourselves within the last 12 months we are able to keenly empathize with the tremendous grief and ongoing sense of loss. Karen will be with you each and every day in each and every way. Our deepest condolences to all. - Posted by: Gavin and Beverly Scott (Colleague of Karen's Father) on: Mar 27, 2017
