Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNEIL DAVID VANDERSTEEN December 16, 1934 - March 16, 2017 Neil passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, after a brief illness at Seven Oaks Hospital. Neil is survived by his loving family, wife, Joyce (Hendrickson), daughters, Karen and Janice, sons, Lorne and Brad, five adored grandchildren, Nicole, Gord, Jori, Alec and Jenna and four great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kaelynn, Hunter and Sadie, sisters, Lucy, Margaret, Josephine, Mary, Liz, and Dorothy, brothers, Johnny, Ben, Bill, Harvey, and numerous nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his parents, John and Josephine, and his brother Bert. Neil was born December 16, 1934 in Dumas, SK, and was raised in Fisher Branch, MB from the age of four. Neil and Joyce were married in 1959 in Lac du Bonnet and lived in Winnipeg. Neil and his family split their time between Winnipeg, Lac du Bonnet and Fisher Branch until the early 1970s after which he spent most of his leisure time in Lac du Bonnet. He built his home away from home on Park Boulevard in Riverland in 1975 where the entire family spent many happy years. He worked in a variety of jobs until he returned to school and achieved journeyman level in Heating & Refrigeration. He retired at the age of 60 after which he split his time between the cottage in the summer and Yuma, AZ in the winter. He was an avid sportsman enjoying time fishing and hunting with friends and family and passed his love of both to his kids and grandkids. Neil also enjoyed hours spent curling - both as a curler and an armchair skip. At Neil's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made in Neil's name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or the ALS Society of Manitoba.

To Aunty Joyce and family, Bob and I are so very sorry to hear of your loss. What I remember most about him was his laugh, wonderful smile, and his gentle manner. My mother had so much affection and love for her brother, Neil. He was a wonderful man and the memories we have of him will be cherished forever! We knew Neil for many years and always thought of him as a very good friend. Neil and I curled together for several years at West Kildonan C.C. and shared a lot of laughs and good times. Myself & my family offer our deepest condolences & sympathy to his lovely wife, Joyce & their family. Neil was a friend as well as a friend of the family. He would never say no to anyone that needed help. He was a lovable & courageous man who loved his family & had a large circle of friends.
