M. BARRY HALL November 11, 1940 - March 21, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Barry Hall at the Health Sciences Centre following complications after surgery for pancreatic cancer. Barry is survived by his wife Kathy, his daughter Carolyn (Denis), his stepchildren Kelly (Dave) and Joel (Michelle), and six wonderful grandchildren, Kate, Soren, Rhett, Ava, Gabe and Finn. He is also survived by his sister Joyce (Jack), sisters-in-law Judith (Bryan), and Barbara (Jeff), brothers-in-law Doug (Kim) and Jim (Susan), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Shirley (Ken). Barry graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BSA in Plant Science in 1965 and then received his MSc. in 1967. He worked for Geigy from 1967 to 1971, for the Canadian Grains Council Trade Association from 1971 to 1979 and for CSP foods from 1979 to 1992. From 1992 to 2011 he was Director of Marketing and then the President of the Flax Council of Canada. Barry's happiest times were spent at our camp at Minaki, Ontario. There was always something to build or something to fix. In spite of having water-access property, he had a crawler tractor on site. When there wasn't a project happening, there was always fishing. Who would think a guy who couldn't swim would love boats, water and fishing! Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will take place later this year and a special gathering will be held at Minaki this summer. If you wish, a donation to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation would be appreciated. We cannot thank the Health Sciences Centre SICU staff enough for their outstanding and compassionate care. You were so kind and so caring! We are also grateful to Dr. McKay and the Orange Team for their valiant efforts. A poem by niece Rae, ends this way: "Written in loving memory of my Uncle Bear. Lumberjack and gentle giant. Builder of beautiful spaces and tamer of psycho kittens. The boatman who loved to fish and could not swim. You are loved and missed so much." We have created a memorial website for Barry at: http://inmemoryofbarryhall.weebly.com/

  • Responsible for starting my career in Ag Chem. Many great memories and I owe my career in part to Barrie and Bruno giving me the nod that I might make a good employee. Never really kept contact as our careers took different tacts but always kept track of where Barrie was. My condolences to the family. Some consolation that Barrie had a far reaching impact on others lives and I thank him profusely. - Posted by: Don Wilkinson (Geigy employee hired right out of U of M by Barrie and Bruni) on: Mar 29, 2017

  • Dear Kathy and family, we were shocked and saddened to hear about Barry. We know how much he loved the lake and cabin and we think we have seen every board used to fix things up as he was always hauling something from the docks!! If there is anything we can do to help this upcoming season please do not hesitate to call us. Thinking of you. Greg & Shelley Minaki Marina - Posted by: Minaki Marina () on: Mar 25, 2017
