FREDERICK CHARLES NEWMAN 1939 - 2017 It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Charles Newman, following a brief illness. His family is grateful they were at his bedside as he passed away peacefully. Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Edith Newman; his brother Brian Newman; his brother-in-law Keith Nelson; and his nephew Robert Newman. Charlie shared 55 years of love with his wife Kathy and their amazing family: son Daniel; daughter Jacqueline (fiancé Brian); son Jason (Geri); daughter Caron (Jason Bunin); grandson Matthew Vickner; granddaughter Sydney Newman; great-grandson Leo Vickner-Groenen; and with his extended family Linzi and Tynan Cherewyk (son Miles), and Michael McMillan (fiancé Mary). Charlie will be sorely missed by his and Kathy's families: his twin brother Robert G. Newman (Jeanette) in Vernon, BC; his sister Jean Nelson, from Ogden, Utah; and his many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Charlie will also be missed by his cribbage pals in particular; as well as by his loyal A&W coffee group! Charlie's love and devotion to his family carried them through many years. He left Regina in 1964 to work in sales with Royal Typewriters, and moved on to automotive-aftermarket sales teams with Goodyear Canada and Bluestreak Automotive Group - a life of work spanning 30+ years which he enjoyed. In retirement, Charlie joined Commissionaires Manitoba, where he worked until this past month. Charlie thoroughly enjoyed these years with The Core, making new and loyal friends. Charlie and Kathy and their family enjoyed their island years in Sioux Narrows, Ontario, sharing the company of great friends, shore lunches, a good 'catch' now and then, and amazing sunsets! The ANAF unit #283 would like to extend an invitation to Charlie's friends and neighbours to gather for a 'farewell' to him on Friday, April 28 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Honouring Charlie's wishes, a private Interment of Ashes service will be held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church. Our family extends our gratitude to Reverend Raymond Knight for his tender support during this very sad time. Thank you to Bardal Funeral Home for their compassion and support. We extend a very special thank you to the Grace Hospital Intensive Care Unit, and in particular Dr. Owen Mooney and the entire staff of this amazing department. To all our friends and neighbours, Kathy and family thank you for your prayers, love, and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association. • I just found out of Charlie's passing in June & was shocked. I enjoyed working with him at the grain commission very much. I called him eagle eye because he never missed anything. He was such a gentleman to all, kind, reserved, a wry sense of humour & knowledgeable in his opinions. His integrity was beyond itself. I think of him often whenever I pass by that building. A good life...a good man...he was a superb co-worker...don't think the commissionaires ever realized what expertise they lost! Sincere condolences to all of his family. • Kathy, Danny, Jacquie, Jason Caron...how sadden we were when we heard Charlie passed away. Because you are so dear a friend, your cares are our cares, too, And so as sorrow fills your heart, our heart goes out to you. Though our words cannot begin to ease the loss you bear, we only hope it helps, somehow, to know how much we care. Hugs. • Charlie was one of our favourite members at ANAVETs 283. Terra and I had a lot of fun with him. He had a pre-arranged signal with us on Thursday nights, Cribbage night, and we would have his rye and water ready for him when he gave us "the nod". Usually his crib partner Jim was with him, so his drink was ready as well. The 2 of them were some of the nicest customers we had there - always joking around, polite, and sweet to the new waitresses, and understanding if a mistake was made. If somebody was new, or forgot and put a straw in Charlie's drink, he'd always say "No stick!" So that's how we'll always remember Charlie, "no stick." He always brought pop can tabs to us in this little Styrofoam dish, which we would give back after we emptied it. That dish kept getting lost and ended up all over the club, and several times in the garbage, and it would get rescued. I finally wrote "Charlie's can tabs" on it to keep it safe. I don't work there any more, but his Thursday Crib waitress Terra is still there, and she will miss him terribly, as will his Crib partner Jim and all the 283 Crib players and Saturday Meat Draw regulars. Just this little piece of him shows what an impact Charlie must have had on his family and friends. Go well, Charlie. You left a lasting legacy, and will be greatly missed. • I met Charlie through his wife Kathy & her sister Pat who is in Oakview Extendicare on Ness Ave & every so often I would call their home around 8:30 in the evening & Charlie would tell me that Kathy was already in bed,so Charlie & I would chat for 1/2 hour or so, talking about the weather & his work as a Commisionaire & different things, I would ask him to come to Oakview for lunch with Pat, Kathy & I,but he would say as a joke that he didn't want to be surrounded by three women. It seems like it was yesterday that I talked to him,but I know he's in heaven now watching over his family & all his friends, I've got one picture of him on my cell with him, Kathy & Pat. Kathy it will be really hard at first, but remember you've got friends to lean on during this difficult time in your life, don't be afraid to use them anytime day or night, 24 hours ok, my friend,God is holding you in his hands right now, one minute at a time, then one hour at a time, then so on & on, ok, love & lots of hugs from Julie xo - Posted by: Julie Rowbotham (Friend) on: Mar 30, 2017
