ROBERT WAYNE CHEALE March 11, 1946 - March 29, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Wayne on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, with his wife by his side. Wayne's memory will be cherished by his wife of 27 years, Delores; his sons Ryan, Kevin (Kristina), Curtis (Karen), Derek (Peggy), and Dean (Patricia). He will be greatly missed by his 11 grandchildren: Keziah, Nevaeh, Darrian, Austin, Dylan, Jordan, Benjamin, Brittany, Mandy, Derek, and Curtis. Also survived by his brother Edward "Ted", and several cousins. Wayne was born and raised in St. James. He would often look back fondly on times playing football in the streets with the neighbourhood kids, recounting exact names and plays decades later. Wayne was diagnosed with Polio at the age of 10, and later lost a lung as a result. Wayne was told he wouldn't make it to 28 but through hard work, living a healthy lifestyle, Wayne surpassed all expectations having turned 71 only weeks ago. Wayne attended St. James Collegiate before enjoying a 33 year career with the Courts of Queens Bench. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Robert and Ruth, and his dog Fritz. Wayne, with his wife Del, enjoyed many adventures and trips across Canada and winters in Hawaii and Arizona. A very devoted father and grandfather, whether it was teaching his sons hockey or golf, watching soccer games, volleyball, or endless swim meets, he was always there to cheer on his kids and grandkids. Up until a year ago Wayne was an avid golfer and remained a big fan of most sports. In his later years he could often be found in his La-Z-Boy watching the Bombers, Jets, Golf, and Curling, always yelling his opinion that would always make you laugh. The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospital for their compassion and care to Wayne during his final days, finally allowing him comfort. Wayne was such a good man, he brought so much joy and laughter to every life he touched and will be greatly missed by his large family and many friends. As per Wayne's request, cremation has taken place and a private family interment and celebration of Wayne's life with friends and family will be held July 22, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Charleswood Legion, 6003 Roblin Blvd. Flowers are gratefully declined and the family requests donations may be made in Wayne's name to a charity of your choice. Condolences & Memories (14 entries)

  • We've been away and didn't hear of Wayne's passing till we spoke to Charlie and Wilma. Del and boys - we are so sorry for your loss. We are saddened by the news. Wish there could have been just one more chat in the isles of Safeway. Wayne will indeed be missed. What a lovely write-up. A nice tribute to Wayne. And Kevin - such nice words about your dad. We have fond memories of car pooling, rosey-brown Camero & Firebirds, Grey Cup parties and Block parties. Wayne did have a great sense of humour and the ability to "tell it like it is". He always left you chuckling. We hope to join you all at the Legion in July. Will be thinking of you. Take care. - Posted by: Robyn & Janet McCombe (Former neighbours) on: Apr 07, 2017

  • My condolences to Del and family. I had the pleasure of being a co-worker and the honour of being a close friend of Wayne for almost 5 decades. He was a special person and I will certainly feel an absence of his friendship. I am grateful and cherish many wonderful memories for which I am very appreciative. Thank You Wayne, You will be missed but never forgotten. - Posted by: Jack Watson (Co-worker/friend) on: Apr 06, 2017

  • Rest in peace Wayne, you fought hard until the end. We will miss the voice answering the phone when asked " how's it going today Wayner?", and the answer "WONDERFUL" when we knew it wasn't going that great. Be safe our friend, hope all your drives and putts are straight, and say Hello to AP, who will likely remind you " No Gimmees" !! Love P & B - Posted by: Peggy & Brian (friends) on: Apr 06, 2017

  • Couldn't have asked for a better father, mentor and hero. Dad knew what mattered in life and didn't bother sweating the small stuff. He took his licks but kept fighting. Hard worker, best laugh, always an opinion, above average golfer, amazing sense of humor, everybody loved him, I am going to miss our talks. I wish I were more like you. Thanks for always being there Dad, till we meet again. - Posted by: Kevin Cheale (Son) on: Apr 04, 2017
