SALLY (SARA) WOLINSKY NELKO Sally (Sara) Wolinsky Nelko was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on March 3, 1924. Daughter of Rose Kantor and Louis Wolinsky; sister of Morris (Mazy) Wolinsky and Esther Wolinsky Pessis; mother of Wendy (Sam) Wilder and Lynne (Henry) Trachtenberg; grandmother to six grandchildren, Lisa (Earl) Raber, Raven Wilder, and Jonathan (Kylie) Wilder Robbie (Buffie) Trachtenberg, Jennifer Trachtenberg, Michael (Moran) Trachtenberg and great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She graduated business school in Winnipeg and married Maxwell (Max) Nelko on July 5, 1944, their union was an equally shared partnership. In 1952 they moved to Portage la Prairie and built a thriving business combining a portrait studio and camera shop called Maxwell Studios. They were a team. They took school pictures throughout Manitoba - Mom posed the students and Dad, as they say, did the 'shoot'. They retired to Florida, the retirement was a short one. They earned their real estate licences and were the first Re/Max Team in South Florida. As parents they had their defined roles. Dad was the kind, nurturing parent who loved unconditionally, and Mom was the disciplinarian who loved us but with her own set of rules. Mom belonged to Hadassah Wizo, Portage Golf Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and was thoroughly involved in the Portage business community. For the last three years Mom visited Wendy and sometimes Wendy and Sam in Florida. She travelled there on her own...even to this last January. She went to concerts, was wined and dined by Wendy and Sam's friends, and of course shopped. Fashion was very big in her life. When she moved into The Portsmouth Retirement Home in October she felt the need to 'dress' every day. She persevered in bridge...went to all programs, and very much enjoyed her time there.. Her last Hurrah was her 93rd Birthday Dinner - only a few weeks ago. She booked a private room at The Portsmouth, Lynne and Mom took a flower arranging course so there would be a centrepiece on the table. Little did they know Lisa was sending a most magnificent one also; Kylie brought the cake. Mom was in her glory, surrounded by her family - her first love. That was our mother - the teacher of roly poly, the student of bridge and computers, and fashion role model to all. Contributions may be made to the Woman's Endowment Fund - Jewish Foundation, phone 204-477-7525, or a charity of your choice.

My condolences Wendy and family on the passing of your mother. She was certainly a wonderful role model and example to her family on how to live life to the fullest. You will miss her, as we all do when we lose a parent. To emulate her values is the greatest tribute one can give in her memory. - Posted by: Joy Buettner (Colleague) on: Apr 08, 2017
