Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Joe was a wonderful boss who would rather encourage staff in problem-solving than micro-manage them. He was our office gardener and babied his myrtle and hibiscus. His intelligent dry wit would catch you by surprise, and he appreciated it in others. He sent me to an assertiveness course for women – and maybe regretted it – but laughed hard when I stalked into his office on my return and said “I just threw your stinkin' palm tree overboard! Now what's all this crud about no movie tonight?” Over the years we became friends with both Joe and June and enjoyed visiting with them in Ottawa and Winnipeg: sharing stories, talking about history over meals, bragging about our kids and then grandkids, and laughing a lot. We will miss Joe and think of him when we hear Roy Orbison, go to the Legion, curl or play golf, look after a pet or a child, and enjoy seeing the Blue Bombers win another Banjo Bowl (which was the last time we saw Joe). Thanks for enriching our lives. - Posted by: Mike and Jan Maydan (friends) on: Apr 11, 2017

  • I am proud to call Joe my friend. As I look at this great image of him and read this great accolade, I'm reminded of his great compassion, his gentleness, his involvement in the lives and interests of others, his impeccable tailoring and his wry sense of humour. At our last meeting of the INAC retirees, I asked him how he could bring so much news to the gathering and how he knew so much of what was going on with us all - who was ill, who was dead. He replied "I go to a lot of funerals". Regrettably, but inevitably, one too many. - Posted by: Jim Millar (Friend and fellow employee of INAC and fellow member of PIPS ) on: Apr 08, 2017
