EDGAR ARNOLD With his family by his side Ed passed away on March 8, 2017. He was born in Luneburg, Germany on January 30, 1947. He emigrated to Canada with his family in 1958 and settled in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his mother Inge in 1991 and his father Gerhardt in 2014. He is survived by his wife Janet, son Brian (Lori) grandson Dylan and granddaughter Riley, son Paul (Liane), brothers Hans (Brenda), Volker (Marnie) and Carsten (Melanie) and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed graduated from Red River Community College in 1966 as an architectural draftsman and was employed by the Federal Government, Canada Land Inventory Project, where he first became interested in mapping and land use. He left Canada Land Inventory to do private consulting and developed numerous subdivisions in eastern Manitoba. In 1981 he was appointed Manager of the Selkirk and District Planning Area Board. He retired from the Board in 2003 and took on the job of Chief Administrative Officer with the R.M. Of West St. Paul. After officially retiring, Ed ran for public office and was elected as Ward 1 Councillor, R.M. Of Alexander in 2006 and as Reeve of the R.M. In 2010. He liked to say he had moved to the "dark side". He and Jan resided at Hillside Beach from 2008 to 2014. They moved back to Winnipeg in 2014 where Ed again took on community service when he was appointed to the City of Winnipeg Board of Adjustment. Ed was always working on something, building or remodelling a house or cottage, learning a new computer program, working on a committee or board, volunteering in any number of ways, or helping family, friend or neighbour. His passions were cars, photography, computers and most recently painting watercolors. He loved to curl and served on the Board of Directors of the Elmwood Curling Club for many years. He was tremendously proud of his family and loved to attend his grandkid's hockey and soccer games. He was a great people person and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He spoke his mind, had a great sense of humour and the ability to make you laugh. We miss him terribly. A celebration of Ed's life will be held on Thursday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. If friends so desire a donation may be made in Ed's name to The East Beaches Senior Scene or the Victoria Beach Community Centre.
