ALICE ANN DORMUTH
Born: Apr 17, 1946
Date of Passing: Mar 13, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALICE ANN DORMUTH (MALOUGHNEY) Alice was the fourth child born to Lena and Jack Maloughney in Radville, SK on April 17, 1946. She lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her mother's sister Marion and husband Anton Weisgarber. Alice spent most of her childhood in Lajord, SK and then moved to Regina to attend high school. After high school, she attended Campion College at the University of Saskatchewan where she met her then-to-be husband Ken. They married on May 6, 1967 and a year later their first child Darryl was born. Soon afterwards they moved to Edmonton where Ken continued his graduate studies. It was in Edmonton where their second child Colin was born. Alice had fond memories of their time in Edmonton where they met lots of friends who were at university and starting families too. In 1971 after Ken finished university, the family moved to Pinawa, MB where Ken took a job with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL). Alice was not keen on this move and was assured by Ken that it was only temporary. She spent the next 27 years there raising her family and making many life-long friendships. While managing the household in Pinawa, she resumed her university studies and proudly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan in 1974. A few months later, their third child Leanna was born and Alice was kept busy in those years supporting her family. In Pinawa, Alice was involved in many community groups and enjoyed curling, cross-country skiing and golf. She loved social bridge and it was hard to keep track of how many groups she belonged to at any given time. When the children became high-school aged, she took on casual employment doing bookkeeping for the Pinawa Club and as a payroll administrator at AECL. After the children had left the nest, Ken and Alice moved to Mississauga in 1998 where they joined the Newcomers Club and made many new friends. Alice also continued to play in several bridge groups, had the occasional golf outing, and worked part-time in the payroll department for Hatch Engineering. In 2013, they moved to Victoria to be near their grandchildren during their retirement years. Alice continued to play bridge and meet new friends but it was being close to grandchildren that she cherished most. In February, 2017 Alice was diagnosed with brain cancer. With the comfort of her family and friends, she faced her last challenge with bravery and could not be thankful enough to all those who cared for her. She passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospice on March 13, 2017. Alice is predeceased by her parents Lena, Jack, Marion and Anton; and her brothers Tom and Ron Maloughney. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 50 years Ken; her children, Darryl (Marni), Colin (Alison), and Leanna; her brother Bill Maloughney; her cousins, Raymond and Lorraine Weisgarber; and her grandchildren, Luke, Callum and Fiona. The family would like to thank Alice's cousin Judith Dalsin for her help and support during this difficult time. The family offers its deepest gratitude to the staff on the Neurosciences floor at Victoria General Hospital and the staff at the Victoria Hospice for their excellent care and compassion that Alice received during her final journey. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Lady of Fatima Church, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Hospice, Richmond Pavilion, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria BC, V8R 1J8 or through the website : https://www.victoriahospice.org/patients-families/memoriam/alice-ann-dormuth-0.

Our thoughts and condolences. I have spent many a day and dinner with the Dormuth family in our Pinawa days. Mrs Dormuth always had an open door and a kindly smile for us and some of my happiest summer days were spent running around her neighbourhood! Even though years have passed memories never fade.
